I purchased this set for my Mother for her birthday. When she received it and opened it, she was very excited at how nice it was and that there were so many bags. She also provided that she couldn't wait to try it out next year when we take our yearly trip since they have the spinner wheels & she won't have to lean over & pick up her suit cases every time she makes a turn like her old ones used to do.
I love this luggage set! I used it for a trip to NYC and it held up being thrown around (literally) at LGA. The largest case was packed to the max and only weighed 45 lbs at the airport - AWESOME. The spinning wheels made it very easy to roll throughout the airport and parking deck. The colors really stand out making it easy to pick out at baggage claim. I would recommend this luggage to anyone looking for a great, affordable luggage set.
LOVE the wheels. It's like rolling nothing (and I pack a lot!). And, the luggage moves easily no matter which way you want to go. LOVE IT! However, I feel like the handle might snap/break if you rely on it to PUSH vs. pull. Someone was pushing the luggage and said how easy it was to move, so I tried it and insisted they stop. I don't recommend pushing the luggage - pull it. It also feels like the luggage will give under pressure/crushing, and I could envision my stuff strewn all over the airport. However, it made it to its destination just fine - and back, of course. There were a couple of scratches :( , but otherwise fine. Now, I was REALLY excited while checking in to the hotel, an Australian couple said they had the exact same luggage and LOVED it. They said they've had it for a while and it has traveled numerous times all over the world and is still good as new. Well, I felt like I made the right choice. My basic search started with a hardcase and spinner wheels. I found the Traveler's Choice Toronto 3-piece Hardside Expandable Spinner Luggage Set on another website, but Overstock had it for the best price. I felt more confident purchasing through Overstock - that my purchase was from a reputable source and guaranteed. The only negatives are as follows. 1) The pacakging was torn up. It was so bad, I didn't think the luggage made it, but it was just fine. Not even a scratch. 2) The luggage smelled AWFUL. Disgusting. Like rubber that was stored in some horrible chemical plant. I put a number of items inside in an attempt to absorb the smell - dryer sheets, baking soda, vinegar, Febreeze. Nothing worked. I emailed Traveler's Choice and they said to leave the luggage opened outside in direct sunlight for 2 days. Well, I live in Chicago and it was a rainy week. Based on the weather forecast, I wouldn't see any sun before my trip. However, one day, there was only a 10% chance of rain, so I left it out. Yeah, 10%. It rained. I thought I'd come home a soup pot, but it was already dried up. I took the luggage in the house and the smell was already gone. Hmmm. Luckily, the forecaster was wrong and the next day was beautiful, so I left the pieces out again all day and the smell was absolutely gone. It didn't appear again after being zippered up. It wasn't on my clothes. It was gone. So, make sure you have 1-2 days of sun to 'cook' the smell out of your luggage before using. Oh, it is lightweight and has double handles placed just so that came in handy when picking up the luggage from the airport baggage carriage. I didn't strain my back like I ususally do trying to whip off my luggage. I didn't need to use it, but the luggage is also expandable. I tested it, and it worked great. I just need to watch that 50 lb. airline restriction.... So, if you are considering this, I wouldn't hestitate any longer. Go for it. Now, I might change my mind after a couple more trips, but thus far, it's a great purchase. And, it was reasonable enough that should it turn to garbage, it will be easily replaced. That wasn't the case with my Samsonite. I purchased an expensive model and it started falling apart after ~ 5 trips. Handles came off. The rotating (inset) lock was broken. The key locks (not zippered luggage) broke, so I couldn't close my suitcase. And it's great that Samsonite warranties it - you just have to have all your paperwork and go through a gazillion hoops. No thanks. I'll just be sure to purchase non-Samsonite luggage from now on that is more reasonably priced.
I recently had to pack the largest of these bags full and was over weight by 12 lbs (so 62lbs in total) on my trip from Manchester, England to Chicago. Everything arrived intact, the case held up well. I bought it thinking it would look upscale. My husband described the silver case as something similar to what John Candy had in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. At least it was easy to pick out from most other luggage spinning in front of me at customs. I have no complaints.
