It was 1941 and America was at war. The First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt championed the controversial 'Tuskegee Experiment,' the Army Air Corps program to train African Americans to fly combat aircraft. We here at Stuhrling Original are proud to honor theses American heroes with a timepiece that celebrates their courage and contribution to their country.
Following up on the success of its predecessor, the Tuskegee Elite is a simple at-a-glance timepiece with a classic three-hand movement and quick-set date.

This watch is powered by automatic movement which means the winding of the spring occurs automatically when the wearer moves his/her arm. However, it is recommended that you manually wind the watch at least once every two weeks. It is also important to adjust the time once a month as automatic movement can gain or lose a few minutes per month.

  • Large face easy to read!
    Verified Purchase

My husband had cataract surgery a few months back and his eyes improved so he doesn't need glasses except for reading. This created a huge problem with him seeing his other watches. The face of this one is awesome, very visible even in the dark it's easy to read without reading glasses. Only one issue with the watch; movement is what winds it and if it lays all week-end without movement it needs re-set. I ask him to send it back for that reason but he liked it so much he said NO I like it I want to keep it!

  • A nice flieger, but...

My wife purchased the watch for me (under the user 'injuryattorney') and I would like to supplement that review since she cannot edit the other. All that she said is true with regards to a new purchase. Over time, I have observed that the watch runs fast...picking up nearly 10 minutes in less than a week. Unless you are wearing the watch daily, or have it in a winder, this is something that you would not pick up on right away and unfortunately, after the return period. Apparently, others have commented as well. The movement needs to be adjusted but the cost of doing so when compared to the item price might not make a whole lot of sense. Not only that, you would be opening up the case compromising its water resistance. However, I have owned another Stuhrling and had other unrelated warranty issues with the other Stuhrling and from my experience, they seem to be OK so our alternative is to send it to Brooklyn, New York and hope they are able to perform the necessary maintenance with us paying the shipping to them and them picking up the cost of returning it to us. While the overall fit and finish is really quite nice (except for the date window and date wheel not being exactly aligned), it is a nice watch. The fact that the movement is so inaccurate and the date is not quite right brings the watch, for what it costs, from a 5 to 3 stars unfortunately and we wish my wife's earlier review could be amended or supplemented but the review system apparently does not allow same. Pity...

  • A flieger watch to be desired...
    Verified Purchase

I collect watches. Most are Swiss automatics. Occasionally, for fun, I break that rule. These are one of those times. While not Swiss, the feeling and quality are up there. The box, for those of you who have not purchased a Stuhrling, is an impressive presentation of outer and inner box, complete with holographic hang tag, warranty card (2 years+1 additional if you leave a review as I am doing now), booklet, etc. It is a homage to fine Swiss watchmaking. That being said, the box is not the watch. Upon close inspection, I found that the movement anchor ring is not plastic but indeed stainless steel. One corner not cut. The steel fit and finish is superb. One issue is that the date in the date window does not seem exactly centered. The luminova is very bright and easy to read and really do accent the Manhattan hands and crescent moon of the second hand. The size while not gigantic, is not small as it is a nice size that fits comfortably on your wrist. The coin edge bezel, signed onion style crown (which is not a screw down one unfortunately) are nice touches. The movement is visible from the rear with blued screws and signed rotor. The rotor rotates freely and makes a nice sound as well. The seconds move nicely as they sweep around the dial although not as smooth as let's say an ETA movement. The movement, I believe, is a Chinese movement, probably a modification of the SeaGull ST6 (a smaller movement originally developed for woman's watches but used often in men's models too). They are one of the better Chinese watch makers. All in all, I am very happy with this watch...FYI it looks like a similar ChronoSwiss for a fraction of the price.

  • nice inaccurate
    Verified Purchase

Very nice looking watch, larger than it appears in picture. Only drawback is accuracy, gains about a minute a day, time must be reset every few days. Still fair value for the cost.
