The Story Behind the Art:
There are over 700 incredible women artisans in India and Bali that bring these jewelry designs to life, finding a path out of poverty through fair trade. They transform the scraps from Kantha quilts, which are made from worn cotton sari and are a traditional textile found in abundance in India, into beads for jewelry. This provides new life to a textile that is often discarded.
Each Kantha bead has a base made of wood, carved out of scraps gathered from a local furniture factory. We, and the artisans, love sustainable sourcing! Artisans then hand cover each wooden bead with a colorful piece of Kantha fabric, attaching them securely with a safe adhesive. Excess fabric is trimmed off, and the bead is complete. They are then strung together until they are transformed into one-of-a-kind necklaces, earrings or bracelets. The beads are assorted so the final piece of jewelry has a unique array of colors and patterns.
WorldFinds mission is to create positive change, build hope, and design beautiful, sustainable products for a better world. They have been able to hire more women artisans, improve educational programs and send their girls to school, and expand healthcare initiatives.
