I ordered this necklace believing that the moonstone was a natural gemstone. I went to Starfish Project website and it is described there as a "moonstone crystal". This means that it is a lab created crystal stone, not a natural gemstone. When held to the light I can see two tiny bubbles (which occur during manufacturing) and there are no inclusions (which are found in natural moonstone). Another test is the temperature of the stone (it is not as cold as a genuine moonstone). I was really disappointed, and may return the item. All that being said, it is a lovely design, size and appearance. The one time I wore this necklace I received many comments and compliments. Now that I am over my initial disappointment, I may keep it. Just know that it is not a natural gemstone, but is a "genuine moonstone crystal" which is a nice way of saying "not a natural gemstone".
I bought this necklace with matching earrings for my daughter because she likes very delicate jewelry. She is in her mid twenties. When it arrived, I thought it seemed the Y pendant part was small, but when I showed it to her....she LOVED it! The Y part with the gemstones comprises a bit over a one inch square area, so it could seem unexpectedly small if you were expecting the stones to go up and around your neck. These stones form a Y shape in a pendant sized area so it's not a big statement piece. The gems are small but sparkle nicely. I bought three in different colors, and one pair of matching earrings. Since the amethyst hasn't arrived yet, I can only review the garnet, which is a nice red color, and the blue topaz which is a pale sky blue like an aquamarine. There are some larger Y gem necklaces on Overstock so take time to look at the pictures showing the piece next to a ruler. The measurement pictures provided by Overstock are very helpful, and truthful. If you are looking for the new, delicate jewelry style, you will love this necklace!!
