This magnificent bronze sculpture depicts a griffin, a legendary creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Regarded as a symbol of divine power and a guardian of the divine in antiquity, the griffin was considered an especially powerful and majestic creature, as the lion was traditionally viewed as the king of the beasts, and the eagle as the king of the birds. Known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions, the griffin was also thought of as the king of the creatures. Crafted using the archaic lost-wax casting method and finished with a brown patina, this handmade sculpture features a lions body, tail, forelimbs, and hindquarters, along with the majestic wings of an eagle. It is mounted upon a black marble base and bears the artist P. Roches signature. This piece is an exquisite example of bronze sculpture and a captivating homage to the mythological griffin.
