These tiles are made of a compact fiber board (essentially cardboard), so are very light weight and pliable. The pattern side is very smooth and takes paint beautifully. The back side has the pressed board texture, as you can see in the first posted image. There are no instructions included, so you have to decide your approach in installing. We used "killer red" double stick tape http://www.brontapes.com/product/bt-3854-original-killer-red/ as it is VERY bonding, super thin and we didn't have to worry about anything dripping as we climbed up a very tall ladder to install. Installing is super simple - just line them up - however they bow slightly in the middle, or are cut ever so very slightly off, causing a small gap in most tile applications. This is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Cutting is possible with a very sharp utility knife and steady hand (what we did since only needed to cut two at the very top of the ceiling), or on a table saw (best for pinpoint straight accuracy). The final image is our completed wall after painting...stunning! You wouldn't know that they are made of cardboard. A real bargain for the effect they create and the easy of installing. It took us 4 hours total, including paint time.
This wallpaper is a good choice for covering a less than perfect wall. It is very forgiving and was relatively easy to apply. It adds a subtle pattern with a contemporary feel.
