Dyson is an amazing company. I had no idea that I could fall in love with a vacuum cleaner! I have whole house central vac - and have had it for most of my adult life. But, I have used upright vacuums along the way. And, haven't been particularly impressed with any of the uprights or my central vacs. The Dyson is a totally different story! This machine is the most powerful, easy to use, beautiful thing ever! Just like Nest is the Apple of Thermostats, so is the Dyson the Apple of Vacuums! The most intuitive user-friendly design. High quality. Within minutes of vacuuming a few small area carpets that had been vacuumed two days ago, the large canister was full of fibers, pet hair, lint, dust, food particles, etc .. from the family. ... My floors have never been so clean! And it works on carpets, hardwoods, tile, etc .. no need to switch power heads. WIth a built in hose attachment, you can do stairs, upper cabinets, furniture, etc ... without running off to search for parts. Now I know why Dyson is awesome for people with allergies - it sucks up all extra fibers, fur, hair, dander, and even minute dust particles! And though the price is daunting - you can buy a refurbished model (that is usually just a store return) for 2/3 of the price of "new." I am in LOVE!
With 4 children and pets in the house, the iRobot Roomba makes my life so much easier. My allergies have been put in check also. Great deal with Overstock!
We are hard on vacuum cleaners in out home, with almost half a dozen pets, and nearly as many outdoor-working men traipsing around, and I am pleased with the Shark NV42 Navigator. We'd had virtually every brand of vacuum die prematurely in our home, even the pricey ones starting with K, D, and M. We'd been gifted a previous model Shark Navigator, and it proved serviceable for about four years before a main hose to the unit suffered a cut or tear, and research proved repairing the old unit would have been pricier than a new purchase. The "new" model arrived (was sold as Refurbished at a good discount) looking pristine and shiny in the box. Being familiar with the old one's configuration, it was a literal snap to assemble. It works well on multiple surfaces and not to much seems changed from the older (purple) model we'd had. There are just a couple of quirks, one being the on-board tool storage. This unit comes with what the manual calls a Pet Tool, which is a small head attachment framed in a sort of velvety fabric that you see on lint brushes sometimes. I couldn't see where this tool could store on the machine, and the manual does state and show the storage spots for the other attachment tools, but not this one, This is also not the most lightweight machine (which mostly comes into play on stairways), nor does it have swiveling movement, which some buyers may be looking for. Overall, it is proving to be a good dependable machine, but without some of the high-tech goodies that some buyers might prefer.
Three years ago, I purchased a vacuum Consumer Reports recommended. It was a terrible machine. We have four pets in our household and needed a vacuum that could pick up hair on the bare floor and imbedded in our Persian carpets. This machine picks up pet hair second to none. As an allergy sufferer of pet hair, dust, etc. I highly recommend this machine whether or not you have pets. The canister with wand attachment easily cleans under the bed. Highly recommend.
