I wanted to wait at least a little before submitting this review. We’re now around day 20 of using this bunk bed and it’s holding up fine. I purchased this for one child, about 50 lbs. Of course the top bunk is the coveted one and therefore most frequently used. I spent two nights on the bottom bunk at the insistence of my child for us to have a fun sleepover. Other than that, the bottom bed has been used to hang out on off and on throughout the day. QUALITY OF THE ITEM: The wooden parts were fine for the most part but there were some nicks that you can tell were present at the factory when they paint over them despite the flaws. Check an example in one of my photos. BUILDING THE ITEM: On the bottom bunk, the slim support edges on which to nail on each side of the 13 slats (that support the mattress) were baaaarely wide enough to nail onto solid wood for the 26 holes (13 slates x 2 sides each). I've tried to capture this in the attached photo as well. I was always so close to not being able to line up the nails to the solid wood edging underneath and so this compounded the construction time. Truth to be told, one side of just one slat on the bottom bunk remains without a nail because it didn’t line up to a solid edging. (Only one side could nail onto wood and I just had to pick a side.) On the other hand, the top bunk didn’t present the same issue and the edging was wider, thank goodness. Constructing the beds wasn’t difficult but it did take me a few hours each over the course of two days. I think it's because I took my time to ensure accuracy plus I was a one woman show. And if you're in the same boat and wondering, I'm petite at 5'2" but relatively handy when need-be! Therefore, with no other adult manpower, also placing the pre-constructed top bunk on top of the bottom bunk (which is how the instructions tell you to build them) was a little difficult, but I got it all done myself. Another word of caution is that when building each bunk, it’s not realistic to bolt on the long horizontal wood pieces to the shorter sides as illustrated in the instructions because it’s not structurally logical or really possible to have them magically free floating, sticking perfectly level in midair, only held by one side at a time. So be prepared to get creative to support the long wooden sides by propping them up on bins and pillows as if someone is holding them up for you as you bolt them on, one side at a time. What else ...oh yes, a ratcheting screwdriver was very useful to supply from my own toolbox. The hexagonal wrench is included and is useable for all the bolts but sometimes when there is a hole that’s not quite pre-drilled far enough, you may need more elbow grease to get the bolts to gain traction into where they are supposed to go in. Read: some pre-drilled holes were better than others. And with an interchangeable tip on the ratcheting driver, I used the ratcheting driver on the nails as well. The ladder of the bunk bed is vertical, not leaning, and it was part of why I picked this particular model for the space saving feature. However, when climbing down from the top bunk, the steps are a little awkaward width apart especially toward the very bottom, so my child (and even I when I tested it) end up jumping off at the end, resulting in a big thud on the floor - lightweight as we are. I wish the ladder came down just a little more evenly to make the last step to the ground more natural in transition so that I'm not having to worry what each healthy jump x a few times day does to a second story floor/first floor ceiling. Lastly, perhaps it’s inevitable as bunk beds go but even with each bolt securely tightened, the bunk bed creaks and settles with movement on the top bunk. If I was assigned to sleep on the lower bunk, it would drive me crazy. And if anyone is wondering prior to purchase like I did - the maximum mattress width is not listed as I wish it was on the item description. However, once you receive this furniture, there in lies the detail. So, to let you know, the maximum matter width is "7.5 inches.” To be ready to use this bunk bed right away, I had bought two new 8” mattress (elsewhere) in preparation and the nominal difference of 0.5” was not at all detrimental. The 8” mattress was suitable in actual use and so I am using them on each of the beds. Hopefully the product maintains structural stability but should it change, I will update this review. HANDY TIP FOR THIS ITEM: In my case, the bunk set was unfortunately missing four pieces of one particular part and had to order them. So take note of the "lot #" printed on the outside of the box. Now onto putting the trundle together 20 days later... (I got lazy after building the bunk.) Three pictures are attached. I wish I could upload more for illustration but hope these help!

Overall great value for the price Likes: *Sturdy construction *Design is practical with drawer/bed trundle option *Paint color online matches reality *Easy to assemble, but took several hours by myself *Trundle was very easy to assemble *Top bunk isn't too high for young kids (8 yr+) Dislikes *Several hour assembly to do it right - use power tools *Have someone nearby that can help lift the top bunk onto the bottom bunk *Screwheads stripped easily with power tools, but took forever to tighten by hand - trade-off *Space between bottom bunk and top bunk is narrow - too small for 8yr+ to sit up straight

Solid construction bunk bed, no chips in the pain. My kids love it and the trundle is excellent for their overnight guests. Assembly takes time, but is not difficult. Highly recommend!

Love the way the bunks look! Sturdy too! Took all Morning for us to put together tho :) Missing bolts is a bummer and having problems finding them do will have to ask the manufacturer

OK for the price. Putting it together the directions were fairly clear but the slats need to be cut longer. Some slats did not fit and I had to drill the existing holes at an angle so the screw could hit wood. This part was very frustrating. Putting the ladder on, the last part was difficult as one hole did not align and I ended up fighting it so much I stripped the bolt. Aside from that, it seems pretty sturdy and looks nice. I wonder if in the future my 9 year old will break the slats by getting up on the top bunk to roughly. We shall see. I have not put the trundle together yet. I am not looking forward to this as the bunk bed took me two days to put together all by myself. I had to stop and take breaks from wrestling with it. Two people would have worked better for putting the bed together.

  • A 6 inch mattress would work better.

This bed has been great for us... three kids packed into a normal size room... this set up is sturdy, stylish and helps create space for the kiddos. I wish there was a bit more clearance between for the trundle mattress and the bottom bunk... I ended up putting the bed on a 1 inch riser, just to avoid the hassle of it... This isn't ideal, but works. I paired it with and 8 inch memory foam mattress. Full grown teenage boys or adults... and you should probably go from something a bit rugged. Review update.... After less than a month.. one of the boards on the trundle has split/cracked.... This bed looks good and seems okay, but I don't think its going to hold up well.

Love this bunk bed. My kids were so excited to get a "big kid" bed set up in their room. Love the trundle drawer for all the extra blankets. High quality materials. Easy but time consuming to put together. Highly recommend.

My babies love this bed. It does not seem really sturdy but my babies love it. I really like the color. Very easy to put together. Maybe faster if you have 2 people.

  • Q:

"how many boxes does this ship in? just got two but not sure how many more to expect (if any?)"

The Taylor and Olive combo set ships in two boxes – the bunk bed in one box and the trundle bed in a second box.

  • Q:

"Will the bunk bed accommodate adults under 200lbs? It reads each bunk will hold 250lbs per bunk, but yet it is recommended for 7-8 yr olds. Is this a good product for collage age also?"

    • A:

Yes, this bed can work for all ages!! The age group on site is only a suggestion. The only limitation is based on weight.

  • Q:
