The item came in two separate box's so assembly is required. This should be nothing surprising for those that have ever put together Ikea or Target furniture. Once together the fireplace is very sturdy and looks as if it belongs in the room, unlike many of those you see in the store that when in a room jump out at you and look irregular. I also purchased the gel fuel with the fireplace. This fireplace fits up to three gel fuel canisters, when all lite this fireplace will produce so heat. The manufacturer says that each canister puts out 3000 BTU's of energy. This is hard to translate into practical useful information, but when all three are lite you generate 9000 BTU's which has the capability to heat a 400 sqft room. The indirect space that surrounds the fireplace (a 20'X15') raised the temperature 10 degree's F after 2.5-3 hours of burning. These canisters typically burn for 3 to 3.5 hrs. These gel canister tend to leave a very faint smell. It isn't a chemical smell nor a strong one that would bother you, just something that I noticed. To rid this I lite a scented candle in the fireplace with the gel canisters and all is well. This is perfect for taking the chill out of the air and gives you the "flicker" of a real fire without the hassle of running a gas line. I am very pleased with the construction and the operation of this fireplace.

I love the product. It looks very real and the crackling of the gel really lets you think there is a real fire.
