I watched as my master electrician put this in. I really liked the overall shape, which is why I bought it. I was looking for something mid-century modern or hollywood regency for my entryway. Only problem is, I have a shorter ceiling there. My electrician used the shortest rod and made it work. It comes with three rods of varying lengths that you can apparently put together and make a longer one. I have to admit, if I didn't have to worry about door clearance (the previous light was almost flush) I'd have definitely gone for the longer rods, as that adds more drama. But the benefit is, it fit in my space - and I needed a flush or semi-flush light. So those of you without 13" ceilings, don't worry. Here's a few problems I ran across: 1) My electrician stated that the interior metal fittings of the light are rather flimsy. Where that shows up is that the light moves a little easier than it should. I am a bit worried it will come down. 2) When you get the light, go ahead and open it up, get out one globe, and take it with you when hunting for bulbs. A regular bulb won't really fit. The best fit we found was with a non-CFL ceiling fan bulb @ 40 watts each. Remember: there's NINE globes (plus a tenth extra, which due to the way they're mounted, you will definitely need down the road.) 3) By far, my major concern is the way the globes are mounted. The wires holding them in show through the glass no matter how you try to mount them. That's the main reason I give it four stars - great design, but if you are looking for it to be exactly like the picture, you'll be disappointed. Also, I am worried about the durability due to its flimsy workmanship. It does look great...for now. One note: I did install a dimmer for this light, and it really functions much better that way, but CFL's aren't really dimmable (very disappointing), and due to the opening of the globe, your bulb choices are limited at best.

If you're looking for something different, this is it! It is modern and very cool. Like other reviewers mentioned, you can see the prongs through the shades (which is the only reason I gave 4/5 and not 5/5. Installation was simple. All glass globes are the same size. There is an extra globe included. To assemble the glass globes over the bulbs, I recommend you have one person squeeze the prongs, while another person uses two hands to place the globe over the light bulb. A dimmer switch would be amazing since this light fixture illuminates our large dining room very brighly. We plan to do that soon. I used 40 watt chanelier/ceiling fan bulbs since bulbs are not included. There are two rods to adjust the extension of the fixture from the ceiling. I would recommend this as a unique and fun way to light up your room.

This is a relay great light. It has a mid century modern look and definately will get noticed. It is VERY bright which is good, but my husband installed a dimmer switch so we can control the brightness of the light. This gives a nice effect if you just want a soft glow sometimes. My husband installed the light by himeself. The actual assembly of the light was very easy. I am not sure what one of the other reviewer was talking about when he said the peices could be easily bent or dented. All off the components of the light were very sturdy, and I did not seen how any of them could be dented or bent. The problem that my husband had was the mounting bracket that came with the light. It did not properly line up with the standard mounting bracket in our ceiling. He had to improvise and get a few components from the hardware store to actually make it work. For that reason it took him a few hours to get up - but once installed it looks and works great.

Love it! For some reason reviews on the difficulty of assembling this fixture scared me off for a long time. I could just imagine cracking most of the globes. I changed the lighting in my dining room twice with other fixtures-- but remained unhappy with the results. I love to decorate & re-decorate - I'm always aiming for perfect. I finally bought it after a year of wasting my time & money on the other fixtures - not to mention putting my husband through hardwiring a dining room fixture 3 times. This one is staying up-- can not imagine finding anything better. With 2 people attaching the globes it was a breeze- one to squeeze the prongs- the other to attach the globe. Nine 40 watt bulbs gives us plenty of light - it just looks fabulous!

  • some things to know before install or purchase
    Verified Purchase

Some things you need to know before you purchase and or install this fixture.1. The metal flange that attaches the fixture to the ceiling while covering the electrical box is very flimsy and is not made of the same steel that the rest of the instrument is made out of. This fixture ships with one of the rods in bolted to it and it can easily bend while removing it from its packing. Also, it?s good to know while affixing the bulbs and globes. To try to distribute the weight evenly by having someone hold it or affixing globes to opposing sides; so that it won?t bend, make a dimple or put un-necessary wear on the flimsy chrome plate.2. Extension Rods. The fixture comes with 2 extension rods. As it is packaged it only allows for 2 lengths. The very long full with both rods assembled or shorter semi flush (located closer to the main sphere of the fixture). DO NOT REMOVE BOTH RODS. You will have a tough time stringing the electrical wire back through the rods. I did because I thought I would use the medium rod instead of the shorter one. It can be done, but you would need extra hardware to affix the rod to the ceiling plate brace. The shorter has two male end threadings. The longer has one end male and the other end female.3. Bulbs. This fixture does not take regular sized bulbs. It takes ?Ceiling Fan? shaped bulbs not to exceed 60 watts each. I used Edison Halogen 40?s A15?s. Regular sized bulbs will not fit through the frosted globe?s opening.4. Wash the globes before assembling. You will see every spec of dust and debris through the glass when light is emitted through it.5. Affixing globes: There are 3 springs that will hold the globe over the bulb. Push 2 of the 3 springs down while placing over the bulb. Then collapse the 3rd to slide the globe and affix the globe into place.I found that the frosted globes are un even in workmanship. It shows defects in either the blowing of the glass or the frosting process. All in all, I would say that it accomplishes the modern retro look but for what I got, I think a lower price point would been more suitable in my opinion.

  • burst of light!

i agree with the review below, I can not understand the complaints below because this fixture was 1-2-3. By no means am I an light fixture installed or expert nor is my wife, I have put up a few fixtures in the process of our remodel of our new home. While taking all the glass gloves out of the box and noticed 1 broken, I continued to assemble (very simple) just to make sure nothing else was wrong before I called. I was shocked to notice there was a 10th globe (1 extra) there was a tiny piece of paper inside 1 box that said something along the lines of "thank you for your purchase, for your convenience here is a spare globe, in the event one arrive damaged you can use it to replace or keep it for future needs" What a brilliant idea! My and my wife joked that we would probably break it when putting it in storage before we could even use it as a spare. So smart to do that, it really helps out and is a great idea... Hey packaging man, Thanks Dude! Besides that I didn't need to look at instructions, very straight forward looks neat and I as well used a dimmer to "set the mood: OH Yea I forget to tell, Me and Libby are using this fixture over a small round eating table off to the side of the kitchen, it give just that touch of funk we were looking for. Metals are strong and the globes look neat both lit up and in the off/dimmed position. I would say out of a 10 overall from quality to price to ease us use I would rate a 8 but +1 for the globe so 9, not a 10 because nothing is perfect. thank you big O for another great deal.

Love this chandelier -- using it in our retro kitchen. Unique, very cool. Not wild about the bar, as it looks a bit cheap with the seam, but everything else is great. You'll need to purchase a special bulb for these -- we're using the CHANDELIER energy-saving lightbulbs, and it still puts out a ton of light. Love that during the winter when it gets so dark and dreary. Electrician had no problem installing.

WOW!!! What a truly gorgeous light. My house is all modern furniture and I have been looking for the perfect light to compliment my furniture now for almost 5 months. I finally found it !!. The light is absolutely beautiful and so well made. The quality of the light was exactly what I wanted. My wife is thrilled and I look like the hero. The light is hanging over my chrome and glass dining table and it really looks spectacular. It was so simple to install and the packaging was unbelievably good. Not a scratch or chipped glass at all. I would definitely recommend this light to my friends who also love the modertn look.

I lovelovelove this light. It came very well packed, nothing was broken. There was 1 extra globe in the box for future use. It took my dad and me about an hour to open the box, unpack, assemble and hang. I read other reviews that said the metal disk that covers the light box is flimsy and dents easily and that the pole looks cheap. They're both wrong. The disk isn't amazing material, but just don't abuse it. The pole doesn't look cheap, there is no terrible seam that others talk about. It looks like a pole. I admit, there are no wiring instructions, but those are readily available in books, online, etc. You wire it just like any other chandelier. I didn't put mine on a dimmer like others recommend, but I had planned on it. I did put 9 watt CFLs in (9W CFL = 40W incandescent). It probably would be too bright somewhere else, but mine is over my kitchen island, so bright is good. I didn't have any problems getting the bulbs to fit into the globes. I think you wouldn't have that problem with CFLs, just incandescents. I get so many compliments on this light. I searched and searched for something similar once I found this one and this was, by far, the least expensive and the quality is nice. Maybe it could be better, maybe the light could take more abuse, but it's a light. I'm not really planning on touching it to do anything other than change the bulbs when they go out. It doesn't need to be able to take too much abuse. Plus, the box says it was made in America, so hooray for that!

Some of the tubes are stripped, so I've been unable to assemble the fixture to hang it. I took the fixture to a local lighting store and it would cost as much to fix the chandelier in order to be able to hang as the whole fixture cost in the first place. Sad.

  • Looks great but not functional
    Verified Purchase

I was so happy with this light for 6 months. It looked fabulous until the bulbs started burning out...the globes are so fragile that they are extremely hard to take off and on. We broke the first one that we tried to change and even worse, one of the arms became unscrewed and it seems like the nut holding it in place fell into the center sphere and can not be fixed. I am having to uninstall and replace the whole fixture because what is the point of a chandelier if you can't easily replace the bulbs? I'm bummed because the look was great but turned out to be a waste of money

  • Looks Great. Options limited on angled ceiling.

The ceiling housing hole is the exact diameter of extension rod, so the rod will not angle more than about 5 degrees without bending the surface of the ceiling housing. Required modification to hang on ceiling angled at about 30 degrees (made hole bigger with a 3/4 inch bit on a drill press). But I love this light! Otherwise it seems pretty much perfect in every way.

  • Looks good but very tricky
    Verified Purchase

I just got this installed, and it looks great. However, I'm a little worried it is going to fall down due to the flimsy interior metal workings, and I sliced up my hands trying to get the globes on. One of the bulbs didn't work, and I still haven't figured out how to get the globe off without breaking it to replace the bulb. If anyone has any tips, it'd be great to hear them. I tried calling the number on the slip inside to see if they had ideas, but they just said "be careful". So I have a cool looking fixture with one bulb that doesn't work and bloody hands. But all in all, I guess it is worth the price.

Cool mid-century style fixture that gets everyone's attention. I hung mine over the dining room table using just one of the rods . Installation was simple but attaching the glass ball shades is tricky. You just have to be careful to get a good trip on the spring wires and not let go until the shade is almost completely on. Putting the shades on is a lot easier that taking them off. I just hope one of the bulbs doesn't go out. I put 25w fan bulbs in mine and it's still a lot of light .

The chandelier completely changed the look of our house. Guests would compliment us on how "cool" the chandelier looked. The only issue we had was that it was very difficult to place the glass balls onto the fixture, so we were relieved that there were spares included with the light fixture. We broke a couple of the glass balls trying to place them on over the bulbs.
