I purchased the Simple Living Espresso/ Natural Country Cottage Kitchen Cart for my sister for Christmas. I put it together by myself, it was fairly easy. It looks beautiful and my sister loves it. The only problem I had was the screws were mislabeled. But using the pictures of the screws and parts solved that problem. All in all it’s a lovely cart and it adds so much more storage and counter space to the kitchen. I’d recommend it highly.

  • Not bad, but could be way better

First and foremost, the carton arrived in horrible condition; its obvious that it has been abused along the way, and the packaging just isn't sturdy enough to handle the high weight and density of the materials. Like previous reviewers have mentioned, the styrofoam is broken into a million tiny pieces; I spent an hour cleaning and cataloging the parts before getting started. There was some minor damage to a few pieces because of the packaging breaking down, but nothing that would prevent it from being built, and all parts were there and properly labeled (except for a couple hardware bags, which were easy to figure out). I took my time putting it together, spending a couple hours, and it put together fine, all the holes were drilled correctly EXCEPT for the little magnetic plate attached to the cabinet doors (1-2mm off, easy to fix). The instructions were pretty clear, no more complicated than a number of other pieces I have put together; a cordless driver, a large Phillips head, and some good Allen wrenches are all that's needed to knock it out. The finished product is relatively sturdy, quite heavy, and looks fairly good, pretty close to the picture; for the money its hard to beat. It could use a little more structural rigidity, as it flexes slightly when pushing on a rough surface (I assembled on carpet); this is mostly from the center 'walls' where the drawers fit into (they don't exactly 'lock in'), and the back facing, which is 3 thin veneer pieces, no strength added at all. I'm not sure how long this would last if it were constantly moved around, but staying in one place it will hold up for a while. Improvements: 1) holy hell, get some better packaging! Its poor quality is causing damage and requiring a ton of cleanup. 2) Bolster the structural pieces a little bit, especially the back and central walls. 3) The drawer construction is pretty flimsy, they'll be the first things to fail. A couple minor improvements to it would go a long way towards better durability.

  • A Beautiful Piece of Furniture

The Island arrived 2 days early. The box had a couple of dings in it but the contents were fine. Let me first say that I have assembled literally 100's of pieces of furniture. I used to do it professionally. Another warning. Instructions say not to use power tools to assemble cart. If you have no real experience using power screw drivers, don't use one. Like I said, I do have tons of experience so I used a Ryobi power driver with torque adjustment. Set it at the lowest torque and adjusted when necessary. Final tightening with a phillips screwdriver. If this doesn't mean anything to you, don't use power. I first laid out all the pieces and checked them against the Parts list. That includes counting screws, etc. Always do this so you know you are starting with all the parts required. There were a few things that slowed me down a bit. A couple of instructions and pics weren't clear about orientation of the piece in question. A simple one was which way a magnet catch faced so I installed it after the doors went on. No problem. Another was a top front support piece. There are 2 holes that need to be to the right of center facing down. Its not real clear. Go slow. The assembly was straight forward and I had only one glitch. The dowel holes on and end panel were drilled too deep. The dowels barely stuck out of the hole. I used some plastic bag to fill the hole a bit so half the dowel now stuck out. A quick fix. All holes lined up, Hinges were pre-installed. Drawer slides were pre-installed. Always be careful in moving the assembly during assembly. You can break it until its finished. Time form opening box to rolling into the kitchen was 2 hr 15 min. I wasn't hurrying and like I said a couple of things slowed me down. Have fun!

This piece of cheap Chinese made junk should be taken of the market. Most of the pieces were mislabeled, holes were not properly aligned, and some pieces were missing. My first shipment arrived in a carton that looked as though it had been dropped from an airplane. Called Overstock, and they processed and sent another one. Long story short another piece of junk arrived. Took about 8 hours to put together. I also had to purchase screws from *** hardware, because some were missing. Pure Junk!!!!!!!

This kitchen cart is a nice color and size, but needs a lot of assembly. The assembly is not difficult, but it takes a long time and requires two people at times. The side cabinets open sometimes on their own as the magnets need to be stronger. The wheels also do not roll as well as they should, and it requires some strength to move across a kitchen floor.

  • A pleasant surprise!

So this is the first piece of furniture that I have ever purchased online. ( Just seems strange not to be able to see exactly what you're getting beforehand) I was really skeptical with reading about problems with the cart being difficult to put together, missing parts, pieces not lining up, etc, but I must have been lucky because mine was really not that hard to put together and, aside from a couple of missing pre-drilled holes, went together quite smoothly. I figured because it was such a great deal that it wouldn't be a heartache if it wasn't that nice, but like I said I'm very happy with it! It took me a little over 3 hours to put together by myself with some multi-tasking in between. I did use a power screwdriver so that sped things up a little. The only part that gave me a little trouble was putting the back panels on. The channels to slide them in weren't quite cut cleanly enough so the panels wouldn't slide in all the way, but with just a little scraping with a knife to clean the slots out they went in and all lined up perfectly. So that was my experience with this unit and I'm officially 1 for 1 as far as online furniture buying goes. :)

  • Difficult to assemble
    Verified Purchase

I've put together tons of furniture from online shopping. This is by far the hardest to assemble piece I have yet to encounter. Part of the problem is the predrilled holes are simply off making it very difficult to get things to go together the way the are supposed to. Also the included magnet latches do not do a good job, I will have to replace them. That being said I did eventually get it put together but the cart got a nickname The Devil In"Cart"nate

Although I really like the way this turned out.....I must say it took EXTENSIVE work and time (approx. 4-1/2 hours) to assemble. The biggest problem is that many parts were mislabeled. The most disturbing was the base where the back of the cabinet was labeled "front". We had already bolted the casters on based upon their labeling and decided to leave them backwards. Two have brakes on them and are supposed to be in the front so you can use them. You almost need an engineering degree for this one!

  • almost for the price....

Purchased this unit as getting ready for remodel and needed a storage/ countertop. Didn't want to spend a lot. I got what I paid for. There are a few minor scratches here and there, nothing horrendous. First complaint: the drawers are not as deep as the cabinet body by 5". Many of my cooking utensils don't fit. Am I the process of gluing one of the drawer fronts back on. Was held on with what appears to be staple. One door refuses to stay closed. The shelves shown on the assembly instructions (with notches in corners) are not the ones received. Simple rectangles, and with the cheesy cheap plastic shelf pins which were too small for the predrilled holes. If the shelves move when you remove something they fall down. The height of the cabinet is perfect for me. The racks on the ends are a bit useless for me. It was not hard to put together just time consuming. All pieces were marked. In a couple of spots you do need 2 people. Wheels are ok. Hope this helps.

  • Not good on many levels
    Verified Purchase

So it looks nice online, right? In fact when you get it in the box it even looks pretty sturdy. Biggest problem is I couldn't assemble it. Neither could anyone because it wasn't made correctly. 4 key screws did not work. I had to use a mix of nails and wood glue to keep the thing together. Also, the foam was broken up into 1000s of rice size peices that flew all accross my house. I may never get rid of every last one of those. I don't reccomend this to anyone nor would I reccomend a peice of furniture this size from Overstock.

  • Don't do it!!

First, I received it in a box that was completed destroyed and with so many holes, you could clearly see the pieces inside were damaged, so they sent me another one - exactly the same! So they sent yet another one, and this time the box was intact, but when I opened it, the styrofoam was in a million tiny pieces and the cart pieces were scratched. So bummed, I decided to put it together anyway, because this piece is necessary to my life at the moment, and after 4 hours of struggle, and noticing the screws weren't long enough, and the holes didn't fit together properly, I have it half put together at the moment and don't know what to do. FYI - I've put together so many pieces of furniture, and I've never had issues like this due to the incorrect screws and the piece being made inaccurately, etc. I do not recommend buying this, and I'm really disappointed, because I've had such great luck with Overstock before :(((

Was not the color that I ordered. No where near espresso. There were 3 different shades in the box. For this reason only, it doesn’t work for me.

Nice cart. It really didn't take too long to put together except the company put the drawer railing on wrong and I had to take them off and redo them. And I didn't realize the top was cracked on the top side until after it was put together. It still looks good and the perfect size.

The cart is nice addition to kitchen but the back and the two side holders are made cheap. both end pieces broke putting them together. would I purchase this again yes, because it still works for my purpose even though I had to fix the sides.

  • So my order came a day before , and it took a day some parts came damaged and chipped but not noticable, solid hard wood of course and its a pretty big box , packaging was good , took more than 2 hours causemy husband wanted it to be put together percectly, looks amazing though. Its a great buy cause i needed an island and storage for my large kitchen and the discounted price is awesome, i think it was a steal . Love the island cart.

Love, love, love this product! Easy to build by myself as a small woman. I would definitely recommend using a power drill, since the majority of this product was not pre drilled, but it was so much fun to build. It makes our kitchen so much more spacious and adds tons of counter space and storage. It was well worth the money and time spent.
