The diamond specks interwoven with the steel make this implement a bit gritty. However, it provides a very sharp edge after passing the knife on this tool only about 5 times on each side, so I gave it a 5 star rating. After using this implement, I give the knife a final / fine edge by using my other rod sharpener. The only minor drawback is the12 inch lenghth (about 2 inches too long for me) and it does not fit in my wooden knife holder because of it's oval / flat shape, which I did not detect in the photo. I find this a must-have tool for my kitchen.
The knife block itself is wooden and well built. The knives I have fit...for the most part. I have some pretty long knives and thought that they would fit in the top section where it appears to be pretty long...but isn’t as deep as it appears.
We are very pleased with our new Block......now we are able to house all of our knives in one place. Very confienent on our counter top and takes less space than we initially thought it might. We are totally happy with this item.
Although averse to using the 5-star rating right off the bat, I have no suggestions as to how the Norpro Knife Block could be improved - consequently the 5 stars. It is sufficiently weighty to stay put, even without being fully occupied. It accommodates a wide variety of knife styles and types easily. I could only be more satisfied if it were made in the USA. I tried but was unsuccessful in finding a comparable (i.e., accommodating the same number of knives) American-made block, even at prices three or four times that of the Norpro.
