Story Behind the Art:
Handcrafted and painted by Lalo of the famous Torres family from Jalisco, Mexico. For 3 generations this family has been creating authentic pre-Columbian replicas of art. The prestigious orders of the Jaguar and Eagle Knights were reserved only for nobles and those who distinguished themselves in battle. Of all of the Aztec warriors, they were the most feared. Both the Jaguar and Eagle Aztec warriors wore distinguishing helmets and uniforms. The jaguars were identifiable by the jaguar skins they wore over their entire body, with only their faces showing from within the jaguar head. The Eagle Aztec warriors, on the other hand, wore feathered helmets including an open beak. These 2 classes of Aztec warriors were the highest trained and most feared in the Aztec Empire. The Eagle knight warriors dressed in eagle feathers and headdress in battle to represent the ferocity of this highly regarded bird of prey. Both orders enjoyed many privileges and underwent a sacred initiation rite.
