This is a simple natural rug with great texture. Feels great on your feet and seems to be made well. Just make sure to shake it out before laying it on your floor. It sheds natural fibers and arrives with a slight smell, but that is to be expected due to the nature of the materials used.

I really liked the rug, but had to return it because it was such a high standing knotted rug. We kept tripping on it!

    • Outstanding Rug!!
      Verified Purchase

I'm so happy that I bought this rug. I was very nervous because of some of the other reviews that I had read. This rug has exceeded my expectations. The weave is very "chunky and knobby" which makes it look thick and expensive. The texture is great and the rug is very soft. We placed ours under a breakfast nook table, but I wouldn't be worried about using it in the living room. The rug is thick and will not clear an entryway door. Absolutely no smell or dirt came from this rug. SO HAPPY with this purchase!

I was looking to add a softer/organic feel to my apartment with brightly painted yellow walls. This rug met all my expectations and more. I agree with many of the other reviewers - it is much thicker than in the picture and softer. I was expecting a stiffer, wicker-type feel. The rug, which came tightly packaged, unfolded gently and settled right into place. As soon as put it in my bedroom, I decided I wanted another one for the living room. The one thing I will say is that the rug certainly had an earthy smell when I unrolled it (which I excused as authenticity). Nonetheless it was nothing that a little Febreze couldn't take care of. Great quality and price! For the record - this is my first review ever - that's how happy I am with this product!

The sisal rug I ordered was more beautiful by far than the picture of it on the web site. It feels great under foot and looks wonderful against our wooden floor in the kitchen. We had priced the same rug at a local retailer for a significantly higher price. Highly recommend.

When I received the rug I left it in the packaging for a few days & when I finally removed it to put in my kitchen there wasn't any odor but it did feel a little damp. After a short period of time the rug was completely dry & still odor free. It does leave alot of dirt underneath but a broom takes care of that. I have the rug in a high traffic area with 2 teenagers, a cat (who has all claws) & a dog. The cat likes to lay on it & sometimes claw at it but there has not been any damage. Some of the loops may begin to pop up but when I push them back down it looks fine. The rug does not need a rug pad. With everyone trekking thru the kitchen the rug does not move & is quite heavy. It feels good on the feet too! I am extremely happy with this rug & it looks much better in person. I would highly recommend!

    • Disappointed!

I was very disappointed in this rug. I bought the rug to use in my dining room, but ended up sending it back. First, the rug is very thick. You would think this is a good thing, but it just looked odd. My real issue with the rug is that it began unraveling. With a dog and toddler in the house, I vacuum often and this rug does not hold up! I could see food crums on the rug that were down between the loops, but because of the texture, my vacuum could not pull the crums out. I felt like the rug was always dirty and messy looking. Cleaning this rug is impossible! I even tried to fix some of the loops that came undone with scissors! Not worth it...do yourself a favor and do not get this rug. However, customer service at Overstock was awesome. I will continue to shop overstock.com.

    Questions & Answers

    • Q:

"Will a thick jute area rug scratch wood floors? I do not want to use a pad underneath."

      • A:

You do not need to use a pad......I just didn't want it to slip since it was in a traffic area.

      • A:

It will not scratch the floors but they are slotted slippery so I would suggest something under it to hold it still

      • A:

you probably should use a pad. the rug will not scratch the wood floors, but will dull the finish without a pad. It will also slide on floor.

      • A:

It's not the rug that causes scratches, it's the dirt that goes through the carpet and with a typical carpet (say, contractor's special wall-to-wall for instance) the backing is quite coarse so the combination of dirt and backing is what does the damage. I have three of these carpets on my solid cherry floors for several months now and my floors are not showing any kind of wear or scratching. While the carpet does have a loose weave to it (I mean in comparison to traditional carpets) that allows dirt to fall through the fibers, it also means that with a hardwood floor attachment on my vacuum, I can suck up a lot of that dirt. Just for clarification, I have a 16 year old Rainbow vacuum and I vacuum 2-3 times a week (we have pets and live in a rural area so plenty of dirt get tracked in....). I love this carpet and am considering the purchase of this carpet in the room size version for the other side of my bedroom.

      • A:

I don't think the rug itself would be the cause of scratching hardwoods, but there seems to be quite a bit of dirt that gets through it to the floor and if there's no pad to hold it in place, the slipping of the rug in combination with the dirt that is trapped under the rug could cause scratching. I decided to remove one of mine from the hardwoods and save it for the tile mudroom floors. The second smaller one has a pad underneath it now.

    • Q:

"Does Roomba ( vacuum cleaner) work well with this rug?"

      • A:

Absolutely not, this rug comes with (not joking) 5 pounds of dirt in it. I have cleaned it by soaking it in a bathtub 10 times and it still gets dirt everywhere - if you are using it for outdoors its a nice rug but do not bring this thing inside

      • A:

Roombas should be fine to use on our rugs. However we do not recommend over-vacuuming any of our rugs.

    • Q:

"Has anyone ever used this rug to cover low pile carpeting? How did it work out?"

      • A:

These rugs are natural and shed. I would not lay over a a existing rug. I love mine on my hardwoods.

      • A:

This rug does shed and the loops can be quite loose. I would not recommend it, it looks nice but not so great. When I moved it recently there was a ton of dirt that started coming out if it. Since it was in an empty staged home this did not make sense unless it was inside the weave when shipped. The type of dirt was not from this area. • Q:

"Does this rug have an orange color running through it? Also, would you recommend it for a foyer?"

      • A:

This rug does not have an orange color running through it - it's definitely tan in color. I have mine in the foyer of my home and it works well there but I will say it is a thicker sisal rug so if you have closet doors or a front door that will open above the rug, make sure the doors can clear it. My hall coat closet door does not clear the rug so when I open that closet door, I have to fold the rug over to allow enough room for the door to open.

    • Q:

      "How thick is this rug?"

      • A:

        It's about .75" thick. I use a thin non-skid pad underneath.

      • A:

Just measured it. The thickest part is 1/2 ".

    • Q:

"Is this rug soft when walking on it or rough?"

      • A:

        Yes they are soft

      • A:

It is soft, but has a "chunky" feel due to the jute weaves. We use it under a custom coffee table we had made, just to cover the space under the table with a little overlap, so we don't really walk on it. Its perfect for our application.

      • A:

The fibers are soft, the rug is thick and chunky, great for entry way.

      • A:

        Yes, it is surprisingly soft.

      • A:

Yes it is very soft, actually nice foot massage.

      • A:

It's pretty soft. I bought two but am returning the second one which i haven't opened yet. It's tough to vacuum. Not good in my butlers pantry which needs to be vacuumed often..

      • A:

I have had the rug for almost a year now, and I love it. It's not where it it's underfoot all the time (under a reading chair so does not get a lot of bare feet.) It's not uncomfortable to walk on, but if you have children who like to lay on or roll around on the floor, not the best choice. I think it would be fine as an area rug for older kids/adults. It really looks quite nice and I love the neutral aspect of it.

      • A:

I wouldn't say it's not soft but it's not prickly. It's jute, a natural fabric. It's like having a foot massage when you walk on it. It's certainly not uncomfortable and not rough.

      • A:

It's not soft, it's thick and knobby. It isn't rough, just not comfortable. I do not recommend it for the living room.

    • Q:

      "How do you clean it?"

      • A:

Vacuum cleaner. So far it has held up fantastically. In fact, I just ordered two runners for my hallways. While the material is a bit rough at first to the bare foot, the material is durable. I've had mine in two bedrooms and now our family room. The color goes with most everything.

    • Q:

      "Is this rug exactly 4' x 6'?"

      • A:

        All dimensions are approximate.

    • Q:

"Can I use this rug outdoors, like for our front porch? I don't see where it indicates it is for indoors only."

      • A:

The Safavieh Hand-woven Weaves Natural-colored Jute Rug is recommended for indoor use only. It is weaved from jute, which will not hold up well in an outdoor situation where there is possible exposure to water.

    • Q:

"I have been looking for a rug for my entry way. Do you recommend this item? Thanks"

      • A:

Hello Bench8, we can appreciate the fact you want a firsthand account of the product. You will receive an email notification every time you get a response. Thank you for shopping with us.

      • A:

I ordered a size that I mistook for a runner. After using it on one side of my bed over tile for several months, we moved to a new home with carpeting in the bedrooms. It was then moved to the entry way. Other than being too thick to fit under a door (depending on the height of your threshold), it vacuums nicely and is very durable. Just ordered two runners in the same material for my hallways.

"Can you tell me what colors are in this rug please?"

      • A:

Hello JoMaMa, we appreciate your inquiry. The rug has variegated shades of tan and beige. Thank you for shopping with us!

    • Q:

"Would dining chairs damage this rug as they are being pulled in and out from under the table?"

      • A:

Hello portlandgayfellow, look for a very fine and smooth texture for a dining room rug and something that will be easy to clean. Natural weave rugs, can be difficult to keep clean, if food or drink is spilled on them. We suggest a indoor/outdoor rug, such as the Thom Filicia Hand-woven Indoor/ Outdoor Beige Rug (4' x 6'), item 15270887 or the Safavieh Indoor/ Outdoor Amherst Wheat/ Beige Rug (4' x 6'), item 16402802. Indoor/Outdoor rugs are 100% Polypropylene and to clean them, you just spray them down, wipe down with soap and water, let dry and you are done. Or, there are carpet tiles, such as the Self-stick Beige Carpet Tiles (120 Square Feet), item 12689301. With carpet tiles, if it gets stained, you can change it out with another tile. But, the Safavieh Hand-woven Weaves Natural-colored Jute Rug (4' x 6'), is a beautiful rug and would look stunning in your dining room. Instead of pushing pulling the chairs, in and out. We suggest lifting them slightly. Have a great day.

    • Q:

"I am looking to get a rug for under my kitchen table... would you recommend this one?"

      • A:

Hello kgray, yes, this rug would work great under a kitchen table. Thanks for shopping with us!

    • Q:

"How does this rug material (says Jute) differ from the Safavieh Hand-woven Weaves Natural-colored Fine Sisal Runner, the material looks EXACTLY the same in the pictures but the runner one says "sisal" and this one says "jute"? They clearly are the same though, so...??"

      • A:

Hello Duchamp, we apologize for the confusion and are working to correct the page. The Safavieh Hand-woven Weaves Natural-colored Runner is made of Jute and not Sisal. Thank you for shopping with us!

    • Q:

      • A:

I already have the larger 10x14 that I ordered from you. Really like the look and price. This will go in entry way. I cannot attest to wearability as we have it in the living room and no one really comes in the front entry door. I will say, because we have a dog with a sensitive tummy, I have been able to scrub out accidents without any stains . This was a pleasant surprise .
