We are currently remodeling our kitchen and after painting, we decided that the builder grade stove fan and light had to go. My wife and I love to cook and after some time cooking oil had settled on the cabinets and walls near the stove. Cleaning only provided a new surface for the next batch of droplets. We needed some powerful ducted air handling over the stove. I looked at home improvement stores but wasn't thrilled with the selection, even with special orders. I hadn't heard of ZLINE previously, but liked the look, the warranty and the rated power of their offerings. The hood arrived in a timely fashion, was packaged well and the installation instructions were clear and precise. If you are handy you can install this yourself. On my installation I had to remove the small cabinet directly above the stove; cut 8" holes in the cabinetry; reposition an electrical outlet and cut holes in the ceiling and roof for the duct work (not included). I had to zig and zag to avoid gas lines and rafters, but it is in and working wonderfully well. We like that the controls are simple for the lights and the fan and should last well. We haven't had to put the fan past the second level, and we're pleased that if we should need it we have 1000CFM available. It isn't silent, but it is on the quiet side. We also like the sockets for infrared heat lamps at the back of the hood. I'm going to have a stainless shelf fabricated so that we can put plates of food there to stay warm. Highly recommend this and Overstock was quite helpful with a couple hitches in the ordering process.
The hood is well made; the gauge of the stainless steel is very good, no visible seams or welds. I would give this hood five stars if the air intake wasn't so loud and the LED lights weren't dim.
Overall the product is good. I had a professional electrician do the removal of the old hood and installation of the Broan. He and his helper carefully followed all the directions and remarked that it was not a simple installation. When it was complete, the test revealed a problem with the fan. The hood had to be completely removed, and it was found that the fan housing was loose on its plate. The electrician had to disassemble the fan unit (which was supposed to be installed as is) and tighten the bolts on the housing, then reinstall the hood. This added about an hour to the time and cost me more than should have been. I think the lights work very well, but on fan speed 2 there is no air flow into the hood from the right side of the stove which is where the burner I use most is located. Time will tell if this will be a problem.
This range hood is not as flimsy as similar products found in home improvement stores. Additionally, while it's the modern style it fits in well in a traditional kitchen. It certainly vents air better than most, and as usual Overstock service and shipping were 5 star!
