It is already seasoned, and ready to cook. I used it to cook breakfast, and it all cooked great. Cooked bacon, eggs, and hash-brown with these pans. The food didn't stick at all. It is very heavy due to being a cast iron made.
This Bayou Classic Cast Iron Skillet does what it’s supposed to. It is heavy as usual like the other skillets out there. Perfect for browning a steak or making some sizzling meal. Proper cleaning and drying is necessary though because if you don’t dry them good, it will develop some rust. I usually like scrubbing a lil bit of oil after drying it. When it comes to size, we usually just use the biggest one because the smallest one can only fit food a size of a sunny side up egg, but will work for fillet mignon.
Overall a great skillet. Browns nicely, stay cool skillet and lid handles, sturdy, cooks evenly. The only issue is a design thing--I don't like the riveted handles because the rivets are not nonstick and food eventually burns on. I'll have to use steel wool to clean them (yes, I'm a nerd like that!) and I am afraid I will damage the nonstick surface. When looking for cookware, I realized that there was nothing that was in my estimation "perfect" (I had a list of desired features) but this comes close enough.
