  • great modern style and its got cush!

bought this piece and have had it in use for about 3 years now. primary use: to fill a spare room for overnight guests/spare tv room. putting it together was somewhat irritating if alone- better for 2 people, one to hold and one to screw together, though having done futons before, so this was a similar, but better, experience. primary reason for purchasing: coil innersprings for lasting use (those base futons have nothing on this!), when not in use, it's a sofa, which makes it more usable IMO likes: price, color, quality of materials, looks like a sofa and NOT a futon, black exposed wood is modern, side arms are actually upholstered - u can FLIP the cushions too for more even wear. a major plus to me. dislikes: when u fold out the bed, the center leaves a gap so if u want to sleep in the middle, ur in the gap btw the sofa cushions. (note each side of the cushion, top part and bottom part are separate). gap is not terribly uncomfortable, but u know it's there. a couple has stayed on it before and it didn't bother them (average sized couple). even my mother thinks it's a comfy sleeper! durability is quite good for the price and moving it was NOT a PITA. it looks like a nice sofa and everyone loves the color and the cushions really make it feel more expensive. Special note: I priced out futons w upgraded coil mattresses and they were uber expensive, hence I gave this one a shot, and glad I did. style seems less bulky which is a plus. I would have given it a 5 but for the when flat center gap, it gets a 4. good luck!

Are you wondering about the terrible star rating and the other remarks are pretty good? It's very simply. This sofa bed is absolutely gorgeous. The blue is beautiful, but the problems are just too much. The first problem, the chemical smell is horrible. Second, there aren't any instructions, but okay, I guess that's what Google is for. Third, the wrong sized bolts are included pre-drilled on the left arm assembly. So the right arm fits great, the left arm has huge holes in it for bolts that are twice the size of the ones that should be in place. Which unfortunately means that I can't just run to the store and match the size and call it good. I can't make giant holes into little holes, therefore the mechanism and rail does not fit on that side. The kicker, I bought this converter specifically for guests that arrive tomorrow and it sits useless in the guest bedroom. I requested a replacement, because this couch really is exactly what I want for this space, and I do think the chemical smell would go away. I am hoping that its just one of those random things. But we will see, if the new one arrives and is not defected, I will be more than happy to update my review. But for now, looking at my guest sleeping on hardwood floors for the duration of their stay unless I go shell out MORE money, this bed gets a NEGATIVE star.
