This bed is solid, a good value and well designed. I put it together by myself in about an hour with only a phillips head screw driver. The slats system is made from good wood and is well designed. The exterior boards look good and are good quality wood. The instructions are just fine. One of the drawings has one of the washers mislabeled but that was easy to figure out. Also the diagram shows that the places where the wood screws go into the side frame have pre-drilled holes to go into - they are in fact not pre-drilled but the wood screws are self-starting and really don't need to have pre-drilled holes. These are just minor discrepancies in the instructions. The bed looks just like the photos when assembled. It does not look inexpensive. One thing to note - the mattress sits on slats that are 6 inches from the floor. Do not be confused to thinking the mattress will sit 11 inches off the floor. The slats are inside the bed frame and therefore the mattress sits 6 inches off the floor. The top of the bed frame is at 11 inches.

    • Murray Platform Bed

I wanted to simplify my life by getting a platform bed that did not require a box spring nor a bedskirt to cover it. The Murray Platform Bed is ideal, and I'm so pleased with it. First of all, it arrived within 7 days of my order. It was packaged carefully and arrived in perfect condition. I selected this particular bed because a previous reviewer indicated that the slats were all attached with webbing and simply needed to be "unrolled" and screwed into the frame. This made assembly much easier. The bed is solid wood -not a veneer or laminate or MDF. It has a sturdy wooden center support running down the center. I was impressed with the fact that the four legs on the center support come with adjustable height buttons on the bottom. Assembly took about 45 minutes by myself. Everything fit together beautifully. This bed is perfect for me. However, if you do not intend to use a box spring with it (as I am doing) the bed will be much lower than usual. I highly recommend this bed. Simple and sturdy beauty at it's best!

We just purchased this and put it together a couple of days later. I love the bed! Much better than our old metal frame. Well worth the money. Really need 2 people to put it together because of the slat system being so complex. If I could suggest anything to the manufacturer Id say to make it a couple of inches shorter in length of the bed and to use a thicker piece of wood on the footboard for sturdiness and maybe an inch or so taller on the headboard height. The footboard sticks out several inches from the end of a mattress and is easy to run into and causes the bed occupant to either step on it hit it with a foot or leg. Also maybe put stickers on some of the pieces so people will know what to assemble and where. The directions were so brief it took some thinking and counting to decide what went where. Otherwise it adds good support looks nice and was well worth the overstock. Price.

      Option: Queen Black

I bought the black platform bed. The shipping was very fast. It was easy to assemble with all the necessary tools in the box. It is possible to assembly by yourself, but easier with two people. I've had it about a month and it seems very solid. I just have a queen matress on it and don't miss the box springs. It has a nice finish that looks like my black Ashley furniture. It's pretty low to the ground with maybe 6 inches of space. I would definitely recommend it- the look is great, especially for the price!

    • I'll second that.

I'd just like to second what johnwwi from Dallas said and add just a thing or two. Very nice bed for the money and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a quality, stylish, minimalist bed. The things to add are this: 1. Yes, the slats sit 6" off the floor, but if you want to slide anything under the bed you only have just over 5" of clearance under the rails from outside the bed. Be aware of that if you want to put storage beneath it (I still can't find any bins I like that are that low profile). I suppose you could put lifts under the legs, but I don't know that I'd like the look. 2. As stated, some of the places where the slats are to be screwed to the side rails are not per-drilled and, as stated, the screws are self starting so it becomes a non-issue. However, because the majority of slats are not screwed in at all, you will sometimes get a *clack* when you flop into bed as the slats contact the rail. A very minor annoyance, but I plan on matching up the screws, drilling some pilot holes, and screwing them all down. Do this once the bed is completely assembled (and after their pre-drilled sites are screwed in to assure proper allignment) and your bed will be completely solid and silent. 3. The only minor screw-up I had when assembling this bed was not realizing the bolts holding the head/foot boards to the side rails get two washers—one flat, one locking. Had to go around and take each out and fix the oversight, but even then it only took about an hour to assemble on my own, not counting unboxing and a quick wipe-down of the components (damn styrofoam....grrr). Easier with two people, but most certainly doable with one if you are at all mechanical. Again, very good value for the money...recommended!!!

I went with the Murray platform because of its great price and simple design. After looking at zillions of bed frames -- 4 posters, sleigh beds, canopies -- I decided to go with the cleanest, simplest lines. In my smallish bedroom, this is a great fit. It's sturdy and very attractive -- I got mahogany, a cherry like reddish brown. It took my beloved about half an hour to put together with just the allen wrench that is supplied. He's a builder, but the assembly seemed very straight forward. I am happy with the results, and would highly recommend. Unbeatable price and solid construction. Oh and by the way, the slats come tied together into a mat that you put down as a unit. LOTS of slats for really good support. I'm using a foam mattress also from Overstock. The 11-inch memory foam. Great combo.

The mattress sits about 2 inches below the side rails which makes it difficult to change the linens on the bed. Other than that it's great.

I’ve had this platform bed for a few weeks now. It took 7-10 days to arrive in one delivery of two boxes. The biggest challenge is assembling the bed. The instructions say you need 2 people to assemble the bed. I agree. Unfortunately, it was just me. I consider myself good at putting things together and using tools, and it took me 1.75 hours to assemble the bed. There were a couple of reasons for why it was challenging to put the bed together. First, the instructions aren’t super clear. If you don’t pay attention to the details, you can make a mistake. That’s what happened to me, and I think it added 30 minutes to my time. The second problem is that the boards are heavy. If you plan to assemble the bed on your own, make sure you are strong enough to hold the planks together while putting in the screws. I ended up using a stack of books to prop up the planks, but it wasn’t easy. The bed is made of some kind of wooden composite. It’s neither plywood nor pure wood (as far as I can tell), but it seems fairly solid. After sleeping on the bed for a few weeks, the bed has been stable. I think it probably will hold up for a long time. [NOTE: I’m a relatively still sleeper and I haven’t been “aggressively moving ” on the bed. For more “active” bed users, you might end up with a different opinion of the bed’s stability.] The bed doesn’t have much space underneath it. Storing items or trying to vacuum underneath the bed might be difficult. The design of the bed is basic and minimalist. It’s simply a rectangle with 4 legs. If you’re looking for something to accent your bedroom, this isn’t the bed for you. Overall, I think you are getting what you pay for in this bed. Nothing more, nothing less.

While the color matches exact, the construction seems to be good, the mattress doesn't fit snug. Since it doesn't have a headboard the bed is pushed against the wall. When the mattress is pushed all the way up there is almost a four inch gap between the bottom of the mattress and the rail. There is also close to two inches of gap on both sides. I expect some space, but I have never had a bed that has had that much space. I gave it one stars because while everything else seems fine, none if it matters if the bed doesn't fit.

I bought this to put in the upstairs bedroom. I put it together by myself, although the instructions tell you it takes two people. It would have been easier with two, but it is doable with one as long as you have a prop for the side rails while attaching them to the end pieces. It did take me a while to put it together, but it came with all of the hardware, decent instructions and arrived in good condition. The bed is low profile but nice looking. Once put together it is very sturdy and doesn't squeak, shake or otherwise move around while you're sleeping on it or getting in and out of bed. A minor annoyance is some of the screws that you use to attach the bedslats to the frame require a small Phillips head screwdriver and it is not provided. Just know that you will need that before starting. The rest of the fasteners are bolts and they provide a small tool to put those in and it works fine. The only "big" issue I have with the bed is the color. In the photos on the site, the mahogany bed is much darker and much browner than the unit actually is. Just know that the actual color has a lot of red and orange tones in it that you do not see on the site, so if you want a truly brown finish this isn't it. Aside from those two issues, I have zero complaints about this platform bed. I would definitely buy this one again if I needed another bed, but probably in a different color.

I have had this frame for less then a year and all the slats have broke around the edges and the frame has come apart on every corner, meaning the screws just striped free from the wood and I had to use wood glue to glue it back together and I am not a large person at 160lbs. this item sucks and wih I could get a refund

This is my first platform bed that I've purchased. I bought it for our guest room. I absolutely love it. It was easy to put together. No problem with any missing pieces or damaged product. I found one similar from another site and the cost for shipping was more than the cost of the bed. Thanks Overstock for giving us free shipping or $2.95 shipping. Other sites should get with the program on shipping charges. Overall awesome bed. We also purchased the Serta memory foam mattress from Overstock. Wonderful comfortable mattress. My daughter now wants to sleep in the guest room all the time. Also I had the bed within 4 days of purchase - that's crazy fast!

    • Sturdy and nice looking bed!
      Verified Purchase

I was a little hesitant when purchasing this bed because my husband and I are not small and we were worried that it would be flimsy and would not be able to stand up to the normal "wear and tear" so to speak. If any of you have the same trepidation, do not worry, it is strong and sturdy and you don't have to worry about creaks, groans, or cracks. We are going to add a couple of two by fours to the middle and screw them in for additional support but even without the added support it is a sturdy bed. Very pleased. I bought the end tables that go with the bed and am pleased with those as well.

    • Not bad

I assembled it by myself, which was a little awkward, but doable. Fairly sturdy, seems like good wood. I wish it was a couple more inches higher so i could fit my guitar cases under the bed. Only real complaint is how far the frame sticks out around the mattress. It leaves a gap between the top of your mattress and the wall, and all the way around the mattress. Plus I've already stubbed my toe 3 times and I'm sure to break a bone someday.

This bed came well packaged and with clear directions. The bed was purchased for our 15 year old son who picked it out,and he loves it!!! We read the reviews and remembered the advice of a fellow overstock customer who mentioned not to unbind the support slats (they come tied together.) GREAT ADVICE. This bed was assembled in less than 45minutes by mother and son;o) The style is very simple and very clean...perfect for a minimalist.

    • Q:

"What's the distance between the slats?"
