  • Elegant Writing Desk
    Verified Purchase

I have owned this desk for a few years now and moved three times during this time. It looks very elegant and sturdy. It complements any décor and can be placed in a bedroom, office or living area. It works in almost any room in the house. It is a large desk with a spacious work surface. Lots of room to a table lamp, printer, desk accessories and computer. Love this purchase!

  • Solid Desk, Great For Tall People
    Verified Purchase

I have had this desk for two years now and I am very happy with it. The desk is very sturdy, and the size and height is perfect for me. The desk was straight forward to assemble, it took about 6 hours doing everything myself. The drawers slide very nicely, though the top drawers aren't attached in any way so they can fall out. The desk itself feels very high, which is good for me as I am 6' 2". I don't feel like I have to hunch over at all like I might for a normal desk. Overall a great buy.

  • Seriously fantastic product
    Verified Purchase

This desk is amazing overall. Pros: - Extremely stylish - More amount of drawers/storage space than I would expect for a writing desk - The top level is the best part. I was able to my large monitor up there, hide the wires, and then could place my laptop on the bottom. Ever see someone's monitor placed atop a stand or worse, stacks of paper? Perfect viewing. Also fit my lamp up and computer speakers up there perfectly, leaving the bottom for papers, laptop, and whatever else I had down there. Cons: - You need a PhD in construction or something to put this together. But when it's set up, it's beautiful. - It doesn't disassemble. The legs don't come off once put together. I had to move and I really wanted to take it with me but there was no way to make it fit in the storage container without removing the legs. I ended up leaving it on the lawn for some lucky neighbor to enjoy :(

  • I love my new desk!
    Verified Purchase

It's the perfect size, color and style for me - very sturdy, solid wood, nice dark espresso finish. I needed usable drawers and this has 3 great drawers, plus 3 more on top. I didn't attach the top drawers. They are heavy enough to just sit there and gives me another option in the future if I decide I don't want them up there, without having made holes. I have a large iMac sitting on this desk and there is ample room even with the top drawers. One could easily configure the middle drawer as a pull out for keyboard and mouse, but so far I've had no need. I really appreciated all the details other reviewers gave on dimensions, etc. It made my decision much easier. It's a great desk!!

  • Beautiful, solid, quality piece
    Verified Purchase

This is a beautiful, heavy, solid piece of furniture! I am a 40 year old woman that is not particularly in shape, and I had no trouble assembling it myself (although it did take some time). Contrary to some of the other reviews, I found all the pre-drilled holes to be in the proper positions and everything fit together just right. Maybe I just got lucky, but I didn't have one problem! Like some other reviewers, I chose not to attach the top hutch to the desk, instead I put small felt bumpers on the bottom of it. I didn't see any reason to drill through that lovely top piece of wood. It is also more versatile this way. The top hutch is heavy too, and stays in place just fine. Oh, and as for attaching the top surface, I simply laid the top upside down on the floor, and then positioned the leg assembly onto it that way. Once I had all the cams tightened and such, I stood the whole desk up and voila, done! I have assembled furniture from a box before, so maybe that is a little advantage, but I really didn't find this piece very difficult. There were a lot of screws, and my electric screwdriver helped immensely with that. Altogether, it is a really beautiful desk, it looks very high quality, is real wood (not particle board), and makes a lovely addition to my home!

  • Nice desk, but legs need work
    Verified Purchase

I bought this desk because I'm 6'2" and like having lots of leg room. Since I use the desk as a laptop work space, the extra drawers on the top make a perfect place for an extra monitor in a dual monitor setup. Once put together, the desk is as expected. I just wish you could get it with no drawers, as my long legs don't fit well under it while seated. However, that's the case with most any desk for me. Assembly, however was a major pain. The legs come preassembled as two parts, to the left pair of legs and the right pair of legs. They're held by three 5/16" dowels that are sort of glued. However, both of mine were glued such that the legs weren't flush, there was about a 1/4" gap and you could see the dowels. So, I tried pushing it together, and eventually broke all three dowels on one of the legs. Well, since the thing weighs a ton, I wasn't going to ship it back. I drilled out the old dowels and put in new ones. Not for the faint of heart or those without a doweling kit. I also added metal corner braces to all the legs. Now that it's together and I've added the extra braces, I feel confident the legs are steady. However, without those, I don't think the small dowels are adequate for such long skinny legs and heavy desk. The finish looks good and so far I haven't scratched it. The drawers are nice, as are the hardware pulls.

Product requires assembly; it helps to have two people, mainly when it comes time to put the top on the assembled frame. That was the only time I needed help. The top is tricky to align with all the little guides and lock screws on the top of the frame. Advice: make sure those silver lock screws are inserted perfectly into their little spaces. If not, the top will never seat properly. As is, I ended up having to take two out that were crooked and took out most of the wooden dowels (from the assembled frame top) that were supposed to help align the placement of the top. It's nearly impossible to get them all aligned at once. (Note: rubber mallet works great at smacking the top into place.) The top is held on by six screws from beneath, so I don't believe the missing other bits will affect its stability. At the moment it's a solid as a rock. The desk is very tall. To be able to use my keyboard, I have turned the center drawer into a keyboard drawer (it's not meant to be one and isn't described as being one in the product description) by leaving off the drawer front, gluing the drawer bottom in (key, otherwise it slides out of the frame and the drawer loses stability) and covered the holes in the end of the drawer sides with the provided plastic caps. I colored the edge of the drawer bottom with black magic marker (it's pressboard so the edge is not black). It works great. I will probably take the time to reinforce the bottom of the drawer with a thin strip of wood, just to help the drawer maintain integrity, since it's not intended to be a keyboard drawer. The delivery was speedy, it arrived in two packages as described. It is possible to nick or scratch surfaces which reveals lighter wood beneath, so be careful placing the top on any surface with grit or dirt (I used the foam packing sheets to protect it during assembly.) An edge did get nicked but a black marker camouflages the damage. The surface area is huge. I have a desktop PC, printer, lamp, books junk...plant. And there's still room for the cat to sleep. The top drawer section is a separate assembled unit which I chose not to affix to the top of the desk. It's being used as a separate shelf unit. The screw holes for attaching are on the bottom of the desk, so if it's attached once and removed, there will be visible holes in the desk top. It could be placed on the desk with rubber feet between to protect the desk top, which would make it removable in the future without leaving marks on the desk top. The only drawback is the drawers are shallow. Not how far they extend into the desk but the depth of the drawers. They are maybe 3" deep. If you plan to purchase any kind of drawer organizer inserts, I'd suggest measuring how tall they are before buying. But you do have six drawers (five in my case) to put all kinds of little things in. The side drawers are wide enough to hold a notebook or legal pad, which is a benefit. Overall I'm so far very pleased with the desk. I anticipate my adaptation of the center drawer will ultimately result in its failure at which time I'll buy and install an under desk keyboard tray.

  • nice writing desk
    Verified Purchase

I bought this desk to match the Plymouth bookcases I purchased previously. They look dramatic in my study. It took me some time to assemble the desk because I was working alone and broke my arm (riding a motorcycle) before I had completed the assembly. So it had to sit for nearly two months half assembled before I could finish it. I had some trouble matching the pegs on the underside of the top section, so left some of them out. The desk seems stable enough for use as a writing desk. The drawers are quite small, so my stapler has to sit on top rather than in a drawer.

Great desk at a good price. Very substantial & heavy. Color is a rich espresso and the piece looks more expensive than it is. It is generously sized and we like that the top shelf can be left unattached.

  • It's big!
    Verified Purchase

This is the fourth desk I've bought for myself over the years, and as I've converted to tablets and laptops, away from a desktop, I wanted more of a writing desk type. This desk is great as I have space to charge a Nook, a tablet, a laptop and my phone, with room to leave some books out at night. But I will have to adjust to the height, as my chair won't fit under it, if I am at the correct height to work on the surface. It is much nicer than the typical particle bard type desks you get at the big box stores. A keeper.

  • Great desk and pretty sturdy

After a few moves of this desk, we noticed that a few dowel wooden pegs are visible where the desk is pulling apart in one place. So, that's not great, but overall it looks really nice and is a sturdy large work surface and has held up well for a few years now.
