In addition to the bracket sagging in the middle when spanning a 60 inch window, you cannot use a center bracket for a cafe curtain. This rod is represented as a 52-90 inch tension rod, however it will not hold up even with short, very light weight curtains. Also the large ends do not allow you to position the rod to the top of the window thus leaving a large unattractive gap. This tension rod does not hold up particularly compared to a shower curtain wide over a span greater than 60 inches.

    • Curtain rod just what we were looking for!
      Verified Purchase
      Option: Black

We just installed new windows in our home and did not want to drill holes into the new woodwork to hang our old rod. We needed a spring loaded rod to fit an 84" long window. Others we tried were ugly and chincy, they sagged in the middle with the weight of the curtain. This rod is perfect. It is sturdy, has one small center support to prevent sag and does so well. I liked that it came in different colors and it looks nice in the living room. I did not have to get new hooks for the curtains and the rod is holding fairly heavy curtains without sagging. I would highly recommend this product.

I bought these curtain rods to hang on the ceiling over skylights. I bought insulated curtains and used these rods to hang them up. They work perfectly, the curtains stay up and the rods have not slipped. My husband hung the rods and made sure they were tightly in place. The space where we hung them is over seven feet long and we did NOT screw into the walls (just spring rod tension mounted) - still hanging! I definitely recommend this rod.

    • good hold for a larger window

This tension rod holds pretty good on a 80+ inch window. It did slide down about 1/4 of an inch, but otherwise- it has stayed in place and is able to hold 2 blackout patterned window panel curtains. I was not able to use the screw mount on my window due to the metal in the window frame; however, the tension holds well without having to screw it to the window/wall.

    • Perfect!

Love these curtain rods. We have three 60" wide windows which require inside-mount rods and we didn't want to have to screw anything into the walls/ceiling. These rods from Overstock are perfect! We bought the pewter color, it's very pretty. We don't need the center support because the curtains are so lightweight, but the support is very attractive and we wouldn't mind using it if it were necessary. I'm surprised by prior reviews stating that the metal is flimsy, at least for the pewter color the rods are very firm and stable. I definitely recommend these rods and might buy more for our other rooms.

    • Worked Perfectly

      Option: Brown

We needed a long adjustable spring tension rod for 4 single panels of light curtains and 4 panels of sheers behind them, all grommets so it was easy to combine the 4 sets on the same rod. We put this rod over an archway in a hallway so it went from wall to wall (88"). We didn't use the screw mount, just the middle bracket for security and twisting the tension rod until it was very tight. It's been 3 weeks now and neither the rod nor the 8 total panels haven't moved at all. Very nice look, modern and attractive. I would highly recommend this product.

This spring tension rod is perfect for the sheer curtains I hung in a wide window. Very sturdy and no center support needed. Simple to install and looks great.

Rod is good quality, and sturdy. I installed it in an opening of about 72 inches, for a short valence, and did not use the center support provided. It is solid with no visible sag over that large opening. I like the fact that it can be screw-mounted if desired, but it's not needed.

    • Worked Great Wtih Two People
      Verified Purchase
      Option: Brown

I had an issue trying to get this rod up and tight enough to hold in place UNTIL I enlisted the help of my husband. With the two of us, we were able to really extend it far enough and muscle it into place. It's not going anywhere now! It did leave black "skid" marks in the white wall but I ignored that while installing and just removed them with a dry erase sponge afterwards. Once up, it looks really good! I think the ceiling hook is a good idea but it's arm hanging down is too short to work well with curtains that have metal grommet rings. The hook is too short and would require the rod to be too close to the ceiling to accommodate the height of the curtains/rings that are above the rod. The curtain would be forced to drag across the ceiling if the hook were used. Bummer, it's a good idea and I intended to use that as a fallback of the rod doesn't stay up on its own.

I am disappointed in this rod. It feels flimsy and I am concerned once I hang my heavier curtain on it it may bend; my space is six feet. The rubber at the end of the rods is black and rubs off on the frame work; it will wash off however once you get your rod in place. I am sorry I bought this item and do not recommend it.

I purchased these to use between 3 pillars on my lanai with grommet top blackout panels to keep my peeping neighbor from peeping in and over my almost 6foot wood fence. Couldn't physically do the mounting work with regular rods. These went up perfectly in seconds. I'm very pleased with my purchase

We have these on 90" windows that I didn't want to drill to put up sturdier curtain rods. They're holding sheer panels on rings and I open/close those several times a day with no problem. There is some bowing near the part of the rod where it telescopes, kind of near the middle, but they haven't fallen down and were easy to deal with. They look pretty nice, in my opinion, especially for the price and being used at their full extension.

I used this and the curtains to close off an entrance to a closet door. It came out nice and professional looking. Looks like it was always there and made that way in the first place.

    Questions & Answers

    • Q:

"Do the ends of the rod come off to allow for grommet top curtains?"

      • A:

Yes! In fact you might not need to remove them. I use this rod as a laundry room device, to hang damp clothes. I'm pretty sure they screw on at the ends. You have the option of tension or screw mounts. I use tension only. Grommets might fit right over the ends, not sure. The ends caps screw into the poles.

    • Q:

"Can i use it for a hower curtain & also hang wet laundry?"

      • A:

I'm not sure -- I used it for window curtains across a smaller space. It has worked great for me, but Im not sure that putting wet things on it across a larger span would be a good idea.

      • A:

I wouldn't use it to hold wet items unless it is screw mounted into studs

      • A:

It depends on how you mount the rod. If you mount if with screws you. You can can mount it as a pressure rod I don't know if it will hold much weight it will hold.

    • Q:

"Can this be used as a shower curtain rod?"

      • A:

Absolutely...that's is what I bought it for and it works great.

      • A:

That's what I bargained for and it works fine.

    • Q:

"How thick are these rods (1", 1.5" ?) and what is the size (diameter) of the end pads, (1", 1.5", 2")??"

      • A:

the rod is .75" and the end is 1"

      • A:

The end caps are just a very small tad over 1 and 5/8 inches at their widest. The thinner rod that slides into the thicker rod is about 5/8" in diameter. The larger rod is about 3/4 inches diameter, to the best that I can see.

      Read more Read less
    • Q:

"Do these rods create tension using an actual internal spring, or by a twist and lock mechanism of some type?"

      • A:

Yes, there's a spring mechanism inside. The length of the rod is adjustable by using a clockwise twisting motion in the middle of the rod while the rod is in place inside the window frame. I used it at a sliding patio door. There isn't a bracket for supporting the center of the rod so you have to consider the width of the space and the weight of the curtains you'll use. I used 2 pairs of sheer curtains. One pair would have worked but for added privacy, the 2 pairs worked well without adding too much additional weight. Worked well as a temporary solution until I could afford to buy custom window treatments. Hoped this information helps. Good luck!

    • Q:

      "How to connect two rods?"

      • A:

These rods can be mounted using spring tension or using two hidden mounting screws.

      • A:

If you are asking if you can connect two of these rod sets for an even longer application, this is not the right rod for that. You likely need wall-mount or ceiling-mount rods with added support brackets.

      • A:

Yes. It is heavy and tension mounted or screwed in. I would screw in wall if hanging wet clothes.

    • Q:

"What is the width of the rod … 1" or 2" ? Thank you, Pat"

      • A:

Hello pianobench, this curtain rod has a diameter that is approximately .75 inches. Thank you for shoping with us!
