This umbrella was purchased to replace a much more pricey 12 y/o commercial umbrella(Sunbrella fabric and heavy construction) that lasted nearly forever. So far so good with this one. It seems to be well made, and unlike some really cheap umbrellas, the fabric does work to shade the sun. Compared to the commercial umbrella the wood pole is nearly identical (very sturdy), the struts are a tad smaller so I will do my best to take this one down when the wind blows. The fabric is thinner than Sunbrella and only time will tell how it holds up and if it fades (Sunbrella does not fade, but it does wear out eventually). This seems much better a a couple of real bargain umbrellas I've bought in the past and those only lasted a couple seasons.
My previous umbrella was an expensive Sunbrella with eucalyptus base (very high quality), so when I first opened this, my initial reaction was how inexpensive it looked. The comparison between the two is the only reason I knocked off a star. The metal frame isn't super beefy looking and the fabric doesn't feel much heavier than a normal rain umbrella. BUT... the lights in it are fantastic! I'm starting to forget what having a Sunbrella is like because the lights in this are so pretty. They are operated by an on/off switch and they shine so brightly. When I turned them off last night I thought "wow, what a difference they make". They really do a wonderful job of illuminating and allowing you to stay out after dusk enjoying that glass of wine. The crank is super smooth, and I put it together in mere minutes. So I suspect that if this isn't left outside in the elements too much, it will do a lovely job of providing the perfect amount of ambience to my deck.
