I read the reviews, and was surprised no one mentioned the color--the wood itself is regular tannish-yellow wood color (could see it beneath the surface where it had chipped a bit), but it has been finished in this BRIGHT ORANGE COLOR It does not look natural at all. Not like any wood Ive ever seen, even redwood. Like a terra cotta pot when it's brand new. Looks cheap and fake. I am hoping it weathers and ages. Oh--and the finishing is giving off a very strong smell. But I assume it will go away eventually. Another strange thing is that I also bought the Balthazaar table to go with the Milano benches, and although theyre are described differently and say they are made of different wood (shorea vs eucalyptus) , when they arrived, it was clear they were made by same company, in same packaging, and the wood looked exactly the same to me. Also had to believe they are "hard wood"--very soft and nicked in places. On the positive side, sturdy enough for the price. Maybe could use a little sanding on some rough spots so you dont get splinters, but design and construction pretty good for the price. Just wish it was not bright orange!
