Amit Moza of India creates this beautiful pair of cushion covers made of 100-percent cotton with acrylic embroidery. The intricate tree design is crafted using aari embroidery, a specialty of Kashmiri artisans. There are slit openings on the solid off-white backs for the insertion of pillows. The unique pattern chosen by Amit is inspired by the coming of spring, with leaves swaying joyfully in the breeze.

    Story Behind the Art:
Hi, I am Amit Moza. I was born on 24th January 1985 in Srinagar. I am a graduate in Fashion Designing from YMCA, New Delhi. Since my childhood days, I got fascinated to the embroidery work of Kashmir, as I was always surrounded by different styles of art and craft of Kashmir. My father is my inspiration. He is into this craft work for the past 23 years. As I grew up I wanted to be in this craft world. So I decided to learn designing and took up Fashion Designing course. I migrated to New Delhi from Srinagar with my family due to exodus of kashmiri pundits. We had to leave behind our family business there in Srinagar. We passed through a very difficult phase of life. But with hard work and dedication we managed to overcome it. We created a niche for ourselves in this beautiful world of art and craft. Initially, it has been very difficult and challenging for me to learn the craft work but with the guidance of my father, I managed to overcome all hurdles. Now I work with my father who runs a workshop and I do the designing. I usually work on cotton fabrics, although sometimes according to the need of my customers, I also work on other fabrics too. Embroidery works are done using woolen or silken threads. The threads that I use are AZO free threads. The colours and dyes used to dye the yarn or fabric are AZO free, i.e. only bio degradable colours and dyes are used. I get a lot of inspiration for my work from nature. My designs are mostly floral or based on animal or bird patterns. I love to experiment with varied colours. I use a lot of colours in all my designs. Coordinating the colours together to give the best match is the most exciting work. While the artisans give shape to my designs and imagination. I look for artisans who love to experiment with patterns and colours like me. We have participated in various exhibitions held in Suraj Kund and Dilli Haat. We export our products to UK, US, Canada and Australia. I want to spread the art and craft of Kashmir which has been dwindling due to political unrest. Kashmir is famous for the most beautiful and creative works of art. I would like to open my own showroom, where I can display my crafts which is my dream. I would like to create employment for women artisans and people with disabilities. I help the families of the artisans who work with me by providing them employment.
