I removed some hinges from a door that was going to be replaced with a beaded curtain. The cut outs where the previous hinges had been mounted needed to be filled in with wood filler. Elmers carpenters wood filler did the trick better than imagined. I applied the filler with a putty knife and after drying I sanded it down to be even with heavy grit sandpaper and then I used a wet sponge to smooth the filler to be not noticeable. After painting the frame the previous indentations are virtually invisible. Highly recommend this product. And, it's water soluable so its easy to clean up.
