Description

Details:

Sleeping Venus with Cupid was created by artist Nicholas Poussin in 1630. In Roman mythology Cupid was Venus' son, hence the two cupids in close proximity to the goddess. The painting also suggests that Venus is vulnerable in her deep state of sleep. Nicolas Poussin (1594 - 1665) was a leading French painter of the classical Baroque style, even though he spent most of his career in Rome. Clarity, logic, and order are typical approaches of his work. For a short period he served as First Painter to the King. History, religion and mythological were his major subjects. Frame Description: Rococo Silver - Antiqued Silver Frame with Gold Bead Inset. Painting arrives ready to hang and with a Certificate of Authenticity.
