We have an iRobot downstairs, and the Neato D5 upstairs. We had to get different ones for different reasons... Neato does a better job on hard floors, and with the D-shape, does a better job in corners. I also find it to be a little quieter than the iRobot, and much "smarter" about seeing obstacles and avoiding them, vs. bumping into them. On the downside, the Neato needs to use magnetic strips to keep it out of "no-go" areas which we couldn't use on our main level. iRobot does a better job on carpets with dual speeds (sucks harder when it senses that it's on carpet, at the expense of being louder). iRobot also uses "beacon" invisible walls (we had to buy 3 additionals) so we were able to reliably keep it out of areas we don't want it to go (or where it would get stuck)....

The Neato Botvac D5 does a good job at cleaning and is a life saver for the busy person. Its design is D shaped of course and seems to do well getting into the corners. If it has to go around a sharp turn into a shallow space, it can miss a few spots on tile or hard floors, so be prepared to touch up a little. If you move it more than 2 feet during its cleaning, it will get utterly confused and returning it to its dock is about the only solution. There is no warning to empty the cleaning bin, so a good rule of them is every time after every clean. Don't try to put the charging base under under an end table to hide it for instance, it may find the base, but has a hard time orienting as it only likes to turn around to back into the base 1-1.5 feet away, not less and not more. Overall a great vacuum and it shipped with 2 extra filters and a small USB cable in case you need to plug it into the computer for a firmware update that cannot be done wirelessly. So far no issues with that at all. It will only re-dock from the button on the app, after you press pause in the app, and also after you have let it learn your home a few times. Don't worry if the app says its offline while its cleaning once in awhile, it is low to the floor and the wifi can read wrong occasionally even though it is still actually cleaning. Lastly, you will need to keep your floors picked up from shoes, etc. One, if you want it to clean everywhere, there can't be things on the floor, and two it eats shoe laces and then will just stop. This D shape seems to be the best value, hopefully they give the D5 a firmware update since it has the lasers to do the virtual map (like the newest D7) that you can set via an app rather than the floor magnetic strips to prevent it from going places.Read More
I have a couple of friends with them, and they rave over them. My BFF says it vacuums in the straightest lines he's ever seen and it's never been stuck ever- that's saying a lot. I had another brand and he wandered around aimlessly, got stuck frequently, and could never find his charging station. I saved some money but was losing my patience....My friends say that this vacuum never ever gets lost, and always find its charging station. I will update this review after a couple of weeks, but from all I've heard, this Neato is definitely the way to go. I have 9 rooms in my fairly large house and a variety of rugs on hardwood floors and also carpet. I plan on putting this vac through its paces and will report back~ Okay, so Rosie came yesterday. We charged her up, put the app on our iPhone and when she was fully charged we took her for a spin. In the beginning, the app was lagging and she went offline a couple of times. But then everything clicked and I got her schedule set up. At precisely 10 am, she gave a little signal and cranked up. This little powerhouse VACUUMED MY SHAG RUG in the bathroom! She didn't get stuck on it (like Bob did) but nope she actually vacuumed it, spinning and skirting the edges of it until it was totally vacuumed. She actually had me at that. Bob got stuck on it, and died. Then he couldn't find his way back to his dock when we freed him(18 inches away) She just finished the hallway, skirting the walls closely and straight. She "sees" so she doesn't blindly bump into things. She vacuumed around the toilet, following the contour closely, and jumped the oak threshold out of the bathroom- she had an issue with it last night, but quickly "learned" how to get over it. It's the only higher doorway transition we have, and Bob was always getting hung up on it. We bought a Bobsweep a couple of weeks ago, so I'm comparing Rosie to Bob- no comparison, to be honest. She is a lot more powerful right from the get-go. We haven't tried her turbo yet or her spot clean, but she vacuums better than I do. That was the whole idea of having a robot vacuum- to leave me more time to do other things. I feel confident that she will do my whole house without requiring assistance, making me highly satisfied with my purchase. Folks, spend the money for a Neato. It costs way more, but in the end you'll have a vacuum that vacuums efficiently and hassle-free. We spent more time saving Bob and putting him on his charger because he couldn't find it , and in the end I had to vacuum to make up for his shortcomings. I really feel like I won't be vacuuming at all anymore with Rosie on the job. The only thing that is a little downer is that her "i" symbol is all you get for problems, so you will have to troubleshoot if she has a problem. She doesn't have an error display that gives a specific error, but so far I haven't seen her get into anything she can't get out of. Overall, I will still simply say pay the extra money for a better botvac- you will not be disappointed~ Rosie is doing a fine job so far, and only got stuck once. She sent my husband a message that she was stuck and needed help getting unstuck. She cranks up every day faithfully and goes on her merry way, vacuuming nice straight lines and loop de loops around the cat bed and tables. I have her cleaning about 1300 sq ft daily and she recharges once, and we clean her dustbin on demand, which is usually twice a cycle. I have her clean the master bedroom and en suite every other evening, and also our very large "den" every few days, since we don't go in there very often. She does a fabulous job on wood floors and navigates easily from wood floor to carpet. She even vacuums across the bases of my cat trees with ease. She knows where all the ledges are and gets in tight to the walls and around furniture. Of all the things I've ever bought, Rosie is the most wonderful purchase. I've already ordered more filters and a battery, and I'm happy that I bought the high performance D5m since it has more power and cleans beautifully. Our new carpet will stay new for a long long time with her help. I plan on blinging her out a bit, and will post a photoRead More
This is the cleanest our house has been since having kids. The kids spill dry cereal, knock paper plates off the counter top, etc. all the time. We tell the 2 year old to clean it up and he goes and "pushes the button on Mr. Neato". Fast forward an hour and our entire downstairs is clean once again. Our floors look great. I might buy another one for upstairs.Read More
Neato botvac is absolutely awesome. Its so nice to have this vacuum for me. I do have to say the first machine we bought was defective, the side brush was not working properly, so i called neato and was very dissappointed in their customer service. They seemed like they were going to do everything not to fix the problem. I ended up exchanging for another unit, Overstock took care of me got me another unit fast, very pleased with Overstock. The new robot works flawlessly, would have given 5 stars if it wasnt for neatos poor customer service.Read More
