It came folded up in a plastic bag as opposed to on a roll. This has its + (saves space and much easier to move around) and - (a little bit of bunching at the creases when you first unfold). The creases came out quickly and not having an extra cardboard roll was also nice. Smooth felt on one side and latex on the other side. This had almost no odor when opened, and dissipated quickly. Overall, a sturdy long lasting product. Cutting with scissors or a carpet blade is definitely possible. Adds enough padding to feel good underfoot. Will order again.

Color more blue gray than picture shows. Still beautiful, almost steel blue gray. Thick, made well and wrinkles came out quickly. I did put a carpet pad under because on wood floor. Arrived on time and packed nicely. Not sure if I would of paid full price with shipping but discounts were available at time and I got free shipping! So well worth the purchase.

    • Easy to Use Rug Pad, Exactly as Described
      Verified Purchase

These rug pads arrived for me in 3 days, before the rugs I also ordered from Overstock. I ordered three of the 9 x 12 and they came folded up in a plastic bag as opposed to on a roll. This has its + (saves space and much easier to move around) and - (a little bit of bunching at the creases when you first unfold). The creases came out quickly and not having an extra cardboard roll was also nice. Those with sensitive hands or latex sensitivities may want to handle with a thin pair of gloves as the one side is not completely smooth (designed to grab the rug) and may scratch up your hands a bit. The other side definitely has latex in it. I expected a stronger odor than I found. This had almost no odor when opened, and dissipated quickly. Overall, a sturdy long lasting product. Cutting with scissors or a carpet blade is definitely possible.

This was a great buy for my $. Because a rug pad is something that is hidden- it doesn't matter what it looks like. i just wanted more than the standard waffle rug pad. Now with the supreme, my rug feels very soft and comfy when i walk on it. The rug pad also extends the life of the rug.

Bought this rug pad to use under an indoor/outdoor rug inside a cabin with very heavy traffic. The pad works exactly as described. I wonder if I will be able to clean it, but haven't had it long enough to know. It made our thin rug feel like carpet. I definitely recommend this rug pad for anyone looking to buy one.

This is a very nice, thick rug pad. My rug is backordered until next month so I haven't been able to test it totally, but I'm sure it will be fine. The pad lays nice and flat and is sized perfectly for under my 9x12 rug...it should be a little smaller than the rug and it is.

    Questions & Answers

    • Q:

"Is this rug pad suitable for hardwood floors? I'm concerned with staining and scratching my hardwood floors."

      • A:

I am using it on hardwood floors, and I haven't had any problems. It does have a rubber/latex back that touches the floor.

      • A:

I have been using this pad on our hardware floors since this past February. I recently had to pull it back to move our Christmas tree into position in one corner of the room. When I did so, I found no visible signs of any adverse effects to my floor. This is a high-quality pad and I will continue to use it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

      • A:

I've had one on my hardwoods for three years. We've had no problems. In fact, i purchased two more because I like them so much. Also, because it has a latex backing that helps it stay down on the hardwoods and because it is heavy-ish, it does not allow dirt to creep underneath and scratch to floors like other pads I've used.

      • A:

I am using it on a hardwood floor and it works fine.

    • Q:

"I also have been warned that pure felt will never react with flooring but that it's hard to know what latex or recycled rubber or recycled latex really are and which will and won't react with a wood floor product. It is also not clear what "felt" means. Felts can range from synthetic to non-synthetic (wool, cotton, etc). The material descriptions often don't clearly describe the material. In this particular case, "100-percent recycled fiber build with rubber/latex" is mentioned in one place and "synthetic fiber" and "contains latex" are mentioned in another place. So it appears that this product has two components: 1) recycled fiber and 2) rubber/latex. What is synthetic fiber and what is the % recycled fiber and % rubber/latex?"

      • A:

I can get to only 3 corners of the pad and there is no tag on those corners. The latex is in contact with the flooring and the felt is in contact with the rug. It has not been down long enough to determine if the floor will react with the rubber/latex material. The rug does not slip. I know what you mean and am sorry that I cannot answer your question more fully.

      • A:

The felt on top is the blue recycled fiber about 1/3 of an inch, the bottom is covered with a paper thin piece of rubber/laytex honeycomb. The rubber feels similiar to those thin white nonslip pads(more vinyl than laytex). It's been on my 1950 oak wood floors that had been freshly waxed(Holloway House"Quick Shine") for two months with heavy use without leaving any impression or residual. The rug stays in place well.

      • A:

My rug pad works, which makes me satisfied. Your question is way too complicated for me. I'm not stupid, just old and trusting.

      • A:

You are right, the product is two components. A felt like material (you see that side in the photos) that has a rubber/latex layer on one side. The rubber/latex layer provides the slip resistance against the floor. I have these under a variety of area rugs on old wood floors for a few months now, and I have not noticed any discoloration of my floors in that time (not a long time, admittedly).

      • A:

No idea. Perhaps consult a flooring specialist.

    • Q:

"Does this rug pad come shipped folded or rolled?"

      • A:

Mine came folded. 12x10. It flattened in no time, required slight trimming but was easy to do. I love it. It added a great sense of luxury underfoot.

      • A:

Mine came rolled. Rolled out without difficulty. Easily trimmed.

      • A:

        I think it was folded.

      • A:

        it arrived rolled

      • A:

        Came folded. Flattened very quickly.

Mine came folded and shipped very quickly! Love it! Underneath my family room rug, makes it nice and soft to walk on.

      • A:

        Mine came folded as well.

    • Q:

"I have engineered hard wood floors, would this pad work well on my floors? (won't stick, stain, etc) I read that natural rubber is better. Is that correct?"

      • A:

This products is perfect for all floors, including engineered hard wood. It is double sided so it will not slip, stick or stain. As for natural rubber, there is no factual evidence that any one pad works better than another so it really comes down to application, brand and preference. However, in my opinion, our double sided pad is significantly better suited to padding the rug as well as preventing it from slipping.

      • A:

These pads are wonderful. I have them over tile floors, but I don't see how the felt would make any marks on any floor, even if you have radiant heat. Thery are heavy, which would prevent sliding. The smallest I have is the 5x8 and it isn't moving. The pads will also make your rug feel more plush and help extend it's life.

    • Q:

"I have a wool rug that is 9' by 12'. The rug has been sent out for cleaning due to severe pet stains. I need to replace the rug pad as well. FAQ's on rug pads advise that the pad should be about an inch smaller than the actual rug. i do not have space to trim it myself. Is this pad actually 9' by 12' or a bit smaller as advised in the FAQ's."

      • A:

The rug pad is approximately 9 feet wide x 12 inches long.

      • A:

    • Q:

"Can this product be used safely on hardwood floors with a polyurethane finish without causing any discoloration?"

      • A:

Hello diy2013, This rug pad is safe for use on hardwood floors, however because polyurethane tends to yellow over time we cannot guarantee the space under the pad will age the same as the exposed finish. Thank you for shopping with us.

    • Q:

"There are conflicting answers to the question about thickness of this pas; one states it is 1/2" and another answer says is is 1/4" thick. Will this pad keep a thin flatweave rug 9X12 from bunching & wrinkling? With elderly residents, the overall thickness needs to remain low. How much will this pad raise a flatweave rug that is .25 height?"

      • A:

I used it under a 9 x 12 thin, expensive rug and it is fine. Mine is closer to 1/2 inch thick.

      • A:

This pad certainly isn't 1/2" thick but it is considerably thicker and better quality than most rug pads out there. I would say it's close to a full 1/4" thick. It will most definitely keep rugs in place but the thickness could be a problem if you have residents that are pushing a walker or something similiar.

      • A:

I agree with emailloni, First of all the rug is about 6" shorter than the rug it is under. This caused a bit of a step off which would be fine for most people but people using a walker may have a problem with it. The rug and pad do stay put and I think that is due to the size. It is pretty heavy

    • Q:

"Should the rug pad be the same size as the rug, or if I am buying a 9 x 12 rug, should I buy a 8 x 10 pad?"

      • A:

I bit the bullet and bought a rug pad the same size as the rugs (I ordered 5 rugs and rug pads). For some it worked out and for others I needed to cut a couple inches off the pad. For something like a 9x12 vs. 8x10, I'd go with the smaller pad. For others, the difference is much bigger and it may be better to get the larger pad and cut it down to size if needed.

      • A:

I would say it depends on the thickness of the rug and pad. If buying a solid colored and thinner rug, the edge of the smaller pad (if buying thicker pad) will create a step-down as the rug continues beyond the smaller pad. If highly textured rug and multiple color and thick rug, a smaller pad won't be as noticable. We bought a thick pad (1cm height from overstock) and a thick shag rug - can still feel the edge of the pad when walking but not bad since the rug is thick and plush. If buying solid colored and uniform length fiber rug, I would buy same size pad and trim the edges.

      • A:

My understanding is the pad should be almost the same size as the rug, just a bit smaller, like an inch or so all the way around. This is how I buy and use the pads on my area rugs. This info. came to me from a large Persian/Oriental rug importer/seller. Hope this helps.

"Can this pad be used on concrete floors?"

      • A:

Hi fairies74, yes this can be used on concrete floors. Thanks for shopping with us.

    • Q:

"I want to use this pad on top of carpet, putting an oriental rug on top of the pad. My sole reason for putting the pad down is to keep the oriental rug from "walking" and bunching on the carpet. Is this pad suited for this use?"

      • A:

I would use the thinner pad
