I had previously owned KA bowl lift mixer back in 2008. It was a black Friday purchase and was a "deal". That was a mistake, it only came with one beater and wasn't even coated. I found it difficult to remove beater, scrape the bowl and add ingredients. I ended up selling it because I really didn't enjoy using it. I decided to buy this one because I know they are good mixers ( from using my mothers). I love my mixer! I definitely prefer the tilt head to the bowl lift, it makes it a lot less of a hassle to scrape the bowl, add ingredients and remove beater. I have used the beater and whisk and haven't had any problems with taking them on and off. Unless you are doing professional baking/cooking the 5 quart bowl is plenty of room, the mixer also has plenty of power!
This mixer's 7 speeds are more than enough- I think I whipped egg whites in no time just on the 4th speed. Comes with a third beater that's a whisk you can use alone, which works great.
I bought a popular, high priced hand mixer that was very disappointing; use it only for delicate mixing. Bought my all-time fave Hamilton Beach which could power a small boat. ;) My potatoes and heavier mixing are no match for this bad girl. I like the case that holds the two beaters and a wire whip. Can't go wrong with this hand mixer, a top performer.
Big fancy mixer, sexy color, perfect fit for my dated 50's kitchen. It whipped up angel food cake batter in a jiffy with the whisk attachment. Nice. Then we switched to the normal beater and threw a triple batch of gingerbread cookie dough in it, which is about the toughest thing we could think of. It churned that thick sticky clay stuff like a champ most of the way but then overheated and shut itself off to cool (we were able to start it back up about 10 minutes later). The bowl is a bit difficult and awkward to get seated correctly. Hopefully the retaining clip in the back will loosen up with time. Yes it is a big heavy duty machine. Yes these Kitchen Aid mixers have something of a hallowed, exalted image (at least in my mind). In reality it is not completely unstoppable. Maybe I had unreasonable expectations. Just beware that it won't mix concrete. Overall a reasonable investment I guess. No complaints.
