They go really well with our existing bedroom furniture since they are exactly the same color. This blends in quiet nicely without dominating the room. Looks elegant. The assembly isn't hard but who ever wrote instructions lack common sense. It would have helpful to know the order and direction of the shelf since you need them in particular order to attach the steel rod on the back. I matched them before screwing them in.
We bought four of these shelving units plus the low console for our tv. They were certainly easy to assemble, and seem relatively sturdy, but I will say that I was a little disappointed when they arrived. On 3 out of 5 units, we had to use pliers to reshape the steel so that the pieces would fit together. In some cases it was evident that the shipper had dropped the box, crushing the metal, in others, it seemed like a manufacturing oversight. Now that they're assembled, I'm happy, and believe that they'll hold up over time, but that's still to be determined. I am disappointed when I walk by the shelves that the places we had to pry the metal are visible. On another note, depending on what you're shelving, book ends are essential!
So its not steel or even chrome legs its silver painted wood. The directions were all mixed up and it took me about 3 hours to put together but overall the product works and looks close to the picture.
I purchased this item as a cd storage only so I did not encounter the issues trying to fit DVD's onto the shelves. The quality of materialials is built to last . The frame is painted steel. Scroll work is welded into the frame. The shelves are solid wood which are bolted into the steel frame. My only complaint was I couldn't get the top shelf to drop into place , I had to take the frame apart in order to free the top shelf. Other than that I am really happy with the purchase. Great value!!
