I'll start my comments with assembly: it was like putting a giant 3D puzzle together and I really enjoyed it. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. When you get to Step 2 (attaching the top, middle, and bottom stretchers), pay particular attention to the middle one and study the picture exactly so your holes are where they should be or when you get to the end and try to install the shelves you'll have a problem you'll have to fix (voice of experience!). No, the shelves do not have pre-drilled holes in them but I used a cordless screwdriver and they went in just fine. It took me an hour to assemble the skeleton and about 30 minutes to install the shelves. The shelves are a beautiful shade of dark gray with the grain showing through (I don't think they're real wood but they still look good). The unit is heavy and sturdy, not top-heavy at all and not rickety whatsover. Now to the piece itself: I got the 'champagne' color and am elated how it looks. My first impression as I was unpacking it was that is 'rose gold' colored but as I was assembling it, it looked gold, then bronze. Whatever color it is, I love it and this piece has easily become the focal point of my living room. I am so happy I bought this, it is absolutely gorgeous and I am very happy with the quality.
This jewelry cabinet is so much prettier in person than the photo. It is a true antique white and the carved roses are just beautiful! The drawers are unlined but I am using it to store individual anti-tarnish boxes of sets of jewelry so it works perfectly for me. The only assembly was putting the legs on which was very very simple.
I didn't put this together myself, but it seemed easy for my husband and his brother to put it together. It takes up hardly any room yet offers lots of display area. Love it.
