Was getting fed up with some high quality sweaters that were looking very shabby with bobbles....well they now have a new lease of life! I LOVE that this is mains powered as I can only imagine how quickly batteries would run out (although you can use batteries if you want - maybe useful if traveling? not sure - as they would also make it heavy to hold) It is SO lightweight thanks to the mains power. Some mention the lack of cord length which I guess could be a pain if you're trying to do upholstery....but haven't people heard of extension cords?!!! Yes it has a transformer type plug so you'd need the appropriate extension cord. I can see why it wouldn't be viable for the manufacturer to make a super long cord. The main thing with this shaver is to take care and don't press too hard - just a firm pressure and take your time. I have used on a number of sweaters - wool, silk blend, cashmere etc as well as a thin t shirt type top - all were given a new lease of life! I would always recommend testing on an inconspicuous area first if you're concerned about how a fabric will respond to the shaver. Sometimes it would make a crazy loud sound like it was off its center or something....I just switched it off, and sometimes had to unscrew the head and straighten up the blade disc. When you take it apart you appreciate how delicate it really is and you realize that you do need to be aware that it's running smoothly or I could well imagine it becomes my damaged. The fuzz causes a lot of dust so be sure to brush clean regularly during use.
