We purchased this light for our dining room after months of debate. I love the fact that the individual lights are length adjustable, a huge factor in our purchase decision due to our low ceiling. However, as many reviewers have noted, the adjustability was part of the difficulty in the install. My husband and I are very handy-capable so this wasn't a difficult project, but might be daunting for a new DIYer. Instructions were not terribly informative and we did end up having to go back and re-adjust a few times. If you have low ceilings, you'll have a lot of extra wire that you'll want to trim before you connect all the wires together. We left some extra length in case we wanted to adjust later, but it did make it harder to fit everything into the space between the ceiling and face plate. The wire nuts provided were also a bit on the small size, but we thankfully had larger spares to use. The length adjustment and pre-wiring took about 1-1.5 hours while the actual ceiling installation was less than 30 minutes. My major knock against the product was the included plate that attaches the external face plate to the electrical box. The bolts on the plate were extremely long, which meant the included cap nuts weren't long enough to make the fixture flush with the ceiling. We opted not to try and cut the bolts down to size since it potentially would have ruined the threading on the bolt. I purchased some finishing washers to fill the gap, but it's still not quite flush (you can see in the 2nd photo the slight gap even with the washers). This was clearly a design error, which I knocked a star off for, but the end result is gorgeous.
Have two of these lamps. The lighting is great and it's a super lamp if space is tight. However, the threaded part in the base is often installed too deep. It may need to be adjusted up vertically until at least 1" of the threaded shaft (silver) is above the lamp base. Otherwise, the lamp pole will not stand vertically on its own. I had trouble with this one and my brother-in-law had trouble with his. Someone needs to inform the manufacturer of this assembly error. A crescent wrench (medium) and possibly a #1,2 Phillips may be needed to make this modification.
Hard to attach heavy base to mount on ceiling. Two very small screws. I ended up attaching floss to screws and threading it through holes in dangly part to attach. Looks great up above our bed.
Love the look of Restoration Hardware but D'Angelo's is better priced and looks very elegant. I had an electrician come in and add add'l support in the ceiling due to the hefty weight. However, after all crystals were hung, one side of the ceiling crossbar came loose from the drywall. The electrician had to come back and put in additional anchors (not included) which seems to have fixed the problem. I assumed that the crystals would be hung using a hook like a Christmas ornament but no. Included are straight "bow tie pins" that are flat metal that you have to thread each crystal, bend then thread through canopy, bend. 2-1/2 hours of very tedious hanging and making sure each were bent in the same place so they hang the same length and straight. The end result is amazing. I would of given 5 stars because it is amazing but hanging pins were a pain and the instructions are pretty much non-existent. Five diagrams and no written instructions. Also the light bulbs are not included. They did include ONE white cotton glove to handle the crystals (a must) but you need two to do the job. My husband ran down to CVS and bought white cotton hand therapy gloves in the pharmacy area.
