They are thin. The red is made of that rubbery material. I have not used them. I am giving as a gift.

It was beautiful, my daughter will love it. I love the style and the oven mitts I should of bought 2 1 for me. They are very well made and the hot plate. Pot holder nice for hot handles or just to place hot dish on table. All around. I am satisfied . I will be buying another for :)
