DISCLOSURE: I've owned this unit less than a week (my friend owns one as well, which I helped set up) so I can't comment on the long-term reliability, only functionality compared to other units I've owned or used. 【TL;DR】 This is about as good as it gets in portable air-conditioners - and that's quite good. 【INTRO & BACKGROUND】 I've owned several "window shaker" type air-conditioners over the last decade, and one other portable. Window models are slightly more efficient (because the "hot section" sits entirely outside) but are extremely inconvenient to install unless your building is designed with a port for them. Many allow "street noise" through, nevermind being rather noisy themselves. Most portable A/C units use generic "guts" and just replace the outer cosmetic shell. This LG is different, which I'll explain in the pros and cons below. I'm going to start "from the ground up" because LG's design team really hit a home-run with this one. 【FEATURES & PROS+】 • The "smooth gliding caster wheels" are extremely durable, easy-rolling and swiveling - many portables use cheap, "office chair" type wheels that bend, break, and clog with hair. • There's a drain plug centered near the bottom of the unit and connected to a 2-pint water tank. The device evaporates water through the exhaust hose but the tank acts as a buffer if it can't remove enough. The device will shut-down if the tank fills up and will send a warning, including one via the smartphone/tablet app, to empty the tank before resuming operation. • the included vent panels store in a slot built onto the back of the unit - this is a MASSIVE improvement over every other portable on the market where you need extra storage space (or a roll of duct tape) to store accessories • the included window vent panels are thick, reinforced, high quality, non-brittle plastic (ABS or PVC perhaps?) and there are enough of them to cover wide windows. In fact, in my apartments with average windows, there was enough paneling to install in TWO separate windows. I cut an extra port in one of the panels with a Dremel routering jig (see pics) and now I don't have to move the exhaust panel, just the unit. • the exhaust hose points VERTICALLY from the back of the unit - another massive improvement over other brands in which the hose exits horizontally - less clearance is needed, and the hose stores right on the unit • dual-inverter compressor - in short: the compressor motor can run at different speeds which makes it not only more energy efficient but MUCH quieter, especially on start up. Instead of the *CLUNK...RATTLE* on compressor start/stop that gives box units the "window shaker" nickname, this one quietly spools up and down, making it great for bedrooms. • smartphone/tablet app monitoring & control - you can check room temperature, check the unit's status, and fully control it from anywhere in the world. Once connected to the network, the unit can be controlled via app even when you're away from home. (you may need the geeky-kid-next-door to make sure your home network doesn't block this) • app allows for scheduled start and stop, as well as delayed ON/OFF 【QUIRKS & CONS-】 • the remote control is anemic and very sensitive to direction - I've practically given up on it in favour of the smartphone app, and the on-unit control panel (no biggie - I think LG assumed people would use the smart app or panel and the remote was an after-thought) It does stand upright, and comes with a wall bracket, though. • The app is slightly quirky: there's a lot of wasted space that results in having to scroll, and click "expand" tabs. I'd like to see this improved by having all controls on the same screen - simple sliders or radio buttons instead of MASSIVE sections would solve this. • Unit requires a 2.4GHz WiFi network with WPA/WPA2 security (doesn't support WEP, not that you should be using WEP security in 2019). Once connected, the app will find it no matter where you are. (5GHz WiFi or on cellular data) • No ECO/AUTO mode - HOWEVER... the "DRY" mode seems to function exactly as you'd expect an ECO/AUTO mode to: it still uses the compressor to cool the air/dehumidify, but runs the fan on low only, then shuts the entire unit off when the target temperature is reached. 【Conclusion】 Despite the quirks, all of the pros of this unit (smart accessory storage, wheels, low noise level, smartphone monitoring & control anywhere) make it a winner for me, and my friend who owns the same unit. While on my bus commute home, from my smartphone, I can check my apartment temperature, command the air-conditioner to power on, and set a target temperature. I get home and the apartment is habitable. An aside: the smarts and dual-inverter, quiet compressor in this unit are available in LG window models, as well as split systems. If your home has a port for a window type, that might be something to consider. Top marks - this is as good as it gets in portable air-conditioners.

I've had this unit for a couple weeks and it is meeting all my needs. I bought this particular unit because of it's wi-fi capability to be able to monitor and control the temp of my apartment for my dog while i am away. It gives me peace of mind to be able to check in and make sure he's comfortable. The unit is much quieter than my previous unit and the air flow feature is a nice touch.
We've been wanting this particular AC for quite awhile based on some great reviews I've read online. The dual inverter technology/variable speed compressor is definitely a game changer. It is by far the quietest portable AC I've ever owned and used and the most feature-packed. The noise the AC does make is quite easy to live with. When the air vent is set to oscillate automatically, it creates noise similar to waves ebbing and flowing on a beach--very pleasant for a portable AC.
I bought this since I was looking for something that was quieter than what I had and needed something that actually worked as well. I had a Whynter 11,000 BTU Dual Hose AC and it worked fantastically well however it was extremely loud even on Low when the compressor was on. It was the 2nd Loudest Portable I have ever owned. The loudest being it's higher BTU brother that I have in the living room. Anyway, I went on the lookout to see if there was anything that would be better since I used to have an old Sharp Portable which was known for being quiet, and this is what I found. I saw that it had a sleep mode that was very quiet compared to others and also saw that it was better on electricity due to the Dual Inverter Compressor. I purchased it immediately! I got it home, set it up with the window kit, which was easy by the way, and when I plugged it in, I couldn't believe how well it worked and how quiet it was. I can easily sleep with it on Medium however it works well and I can keep it on Low and Sleep. It easily cools my room even on days 100+ and does so at a much lower power usage. At first I didn't really believe that it would save much on electricity but I tested it with plugin wattage monitor. My Whynter used about 1300 watts on High and while the LG does go up that high sometimes, it usually runs at about 500-850 watts. I especially noticed that when the temperature is getting close to the set temp, it stays lower on the wattage. If you go to sleep mode, it runs at about 350-380 watts which is ABSOLUTELY crazy to me. Lastly of the positive notes, I have this connected to my Google Home and it's been great! It's nice to be able to just set it from my Google display and not have to worry about a thing. It's was easy to setup on my wifi and works! There is a delay but it's much better than a Frigidaire Gallery we have in another bedroom. It's as easy as saying, "Hey Google, turn the AC on!" and voila, it's turned on! While it does work GREAT I must advise that there is one negative thing people have brought up and it does indeed have that high pitched whine however after a while, it got better and is no longer as loud compared to when I first plugged it in. I honestly didn't think I was going to keep it because of that but because it's not nearly as bad anymore, I am keeping it! I highly recommend this unit however I do hope that LG in the future finds a way to make these units a tad cheaper since I would love to buy another one for the living room but they are extremely pricey for the Portable AC World.
I love my new air conditioner. It cools the room down fast while remaining whisper quiet. I also love the features that are available like controlling the air conditioner from my LG app on my phone. This is the best air conditioner I've ever bought.
I purchased this air conditioner about month ago and absolutely love it. I currently own an older model LG portable air conditioner but this unit cools way faster and is really quiet compared to the older model. The older model has a very noticeable "cycle" when the compressor kicks on/off whereas this unit it is hardly audible. The remote can be finicky but we hardly use it. Another feature that I really like is the case for the unit is sealed and has two filters (one large on top and one small on bottom) that are easy to access and clean. My older unit just has one filter at the top and has open grates at the bottom which allows a lot of build up that must be cleaned on an annual basis by taking the unit apart. Overall, this unit has more than met our needs in the hot and humid climate that we live.
It is nowhere near silent, but on the lowest setting it is certainly quieter than our other LG air conditioner (which isn't dual inverter). On this low setting, it cools the room just fine. I have tinnitus, so reducing the sound level is very important to me.
I recently purchased this portable AC unit in preparation for the unbearable heat of the California Summer. So far, it works like a charm! My husband is more of a tech person so he really enjoys all the cool features this AC has to offer. I'm usually the person that gets frustrated with tech, but even this ac is easy for me to control which is awesome. It cools my entire house within minutes. And it's not as loud as other ac units which is a plus. I especially enjoy the timer feature where it turns off by itself because, let's face it, we all forget to turn things off after a while. It's unique look is also a great touch. The last AC I owned had the vent exposed which wasn't too great because it would collect dust fast or there was a rick if things accidentally falling into it, but this one has a cover that opens/ closes the vents when the machine is on/off. It also moves up and down as the machine is on so that it spreads the cool air around the area (and faster) instead of just shooting it in one direction. And I can't forget about the coolest feature so far- it connects to WiFi and your phone!! Definitely worth every penny!
I actually bought mine used. I love it. My only problem was it had an issue with LG Thinq basic on Alexa. The solution is use LG Thinq complete skill instead of Basic. Overall amazing portable AC.
We bought this to replace an off brand one. This is our second LG air conditioner and we love them!
Just moved into s new home. In my previous home I had mitsubishi splits installed in my second floor Victorian condominium. My new home did not have air-conditioning and I was looking for an air conditioner that was similar to what I had in my old home. I saw the dual inverter on Amazon and purchased it
Great cooling , less nosiy, overall great air conditioning for medium sized room. Heavy product with energy efficiency works well with google and alexa.
I bought this air conditioner to use in the room I am using while working from home. The reason I selected this model after researching other brands and models, is that it was advertised as quiet. I needed a quiet model since I participate in many video calls for work. This air conditioner did a fantastic job during the warm summer days -- both in cooling and sound level! I even asked coworkers while on a call if they could hear the unit when it was on, and they said they couldn't hear it at all. With the WiFi capability and LG ThinQ app on my phone, I was able to turn the unit on and off as needed to keep the room at a comfortable temperature without having to leave my chair.
I previously owned a different brand portable unit and swore I would never purchase another one due to the noise. The woman at Home Depot showed me some of the features and I was impressed enough to purchase this one. I have been able to fall asleep with this unit on low, rather than sleep mode. Both work well. I'm having some problems with connecting the Wi-Fi feature but that's due to distance, and obstacles in between. Extremely happy with this purchase.
This is a high demand unit for a reason. It works. The tech on this unit is much newer then other units and it is evident on how well it cools. All the heat transfer/thermo arguments aside between indoor/versus outdoor units this unit really pushes cold air. If you have a larger bedroom 15ft x15ft it will work perfect even with a high solar load, older window house with eastern exposure. This unit work so well it can cool the entire upper level. The sound on low and med fan it very tolerable. On high it would be to loud to sleep but it would have then froze out the room by then. The air flow is really good. They could have made it a bit quieter if the aid duct was full width on the top vent but that doesn't affect performance. Mounting attachments are great. Its a heavy unit but if you want cheap junk then buy something light weight. This a full ton of cooling. The compressors are very quiet. Energy bills was not impacted much at all due to the dual compressors. The shipping box it comes in really needs a redo and can lead to damage. Ensure you check the unit for damage from the shippers. The remote works fine no issue. I did not hook up the Bluetooth, that process is a bit of pain from the website. Great unit overall. Would buy again but only need one!
Very pleased with the performance of this unit in contrast to other popular and highly rated portable air conditioners I've used in the past. What sets this LG unit apart is its low level operational noise while delivering exceptional cooling power to our 600 Sq. Ft. bedroom. I also appreciate how the unobstrusive and compact this unit is, given the cooling capacity that it delivers.
I am not allowed to have a window air conditioner where I live so I searched high and low for a solution that was a compromise. I considered dual hose units as a priority but I realized unit noise level and inconspicuancy was more important. This fit the bill. I was able to install and use it without it being noticed. It successfully cooled a 300 sq ft area within a short time from 85 to 75 degrees. I made sure to cover vents and cracks beforehand. It was a lifesaver during the hottest part of the summer and appears to be energy efficient as well. Expensive unit but pleased with my purchase so far.
