I had been searching for a small chest or cabinet for the master bathroom in my country home in the California redwoods. Challenges were that the base part of the cabinet could not be wider than 30 inches (the top could, but not the base), it could not be a deep piece of furniture but it needed to accommodate a large antique wash bowl and pitcher that had been in the family for generations. Most importantly, the cabinet needed to have a rustic, primitive quality to it so that it fit into its country setting without being ornate or feminine in appearance (the wash bowl was already more frill than I'm used to but I've wanted to display it for years). Oh, and the final challenge was that it would be placed OVER a heat register in the floor. Well, folks, the Bristol cabinet is perfection to me. I really can't stop admiring its simple and practical elegance and how well it meets my needs. Excluding the lip of the top, it is just under 30 inches wide. The bowed front is the perfect complement to the wash bowl and it brings the primitive nature of the piece up a notch. The two shelves (two if you count the bottom shelf) now hold towels, and heat from the vent flows only out the bottom front of the cabinet because the backing of the cabinet goes surprisingly all the way to the floor. I'm quite pleased and hats off to Overstock for a really quick delivery. If there is one possible negative, it is that the wood used shows much more variation than it does in the photo and the cabinet is not quite as "white-washed" looking or as uniform in tone. It has more a weathered, reclaimed appearance with a few of the strips of wood having remnants of some old paint color to them. I actually love this about it...and my towels are warm!
