Great piece of furniture when all done correctly!
I ordered this cart because it is made in the USA with wood collected right there in the State of New York. It was delivered much quicker than I thought it would be, so that was a plus. I would have to say that the worse part was the assembly instructions, as they are very vague to say the least. We were able to figure it out by pulling up the website to help us to get through the beginning stages. The bastion posts were a little tricky, as they must extend out just the right amount, in order for it to all line up in the end. We had to take apart and redo the posts twice. Once it was right, the parts fit perfectly! Instructions for this vital piece of knowledge when using these posts, was absent, so you only learned of it when you get to the end, when it did not fit snug and you sit there, scratching your head. The videos are very helpful and I suggest using them. Assembly took about 5 hours, with a lot of frustration in between, but well worth the effort, as it is a beautiful piece of functional furniture! I would rate as 5 stars for the piece itself, as it is definitely quality work, but the nightmare with assembly kicks it down a notch. They need to come up with a better way to lay out those instructions step by step, to make it easier to follow. Good job Overstock, with having this quality craftmanship company on your website...and affordable as well. It sure beats some of the other kitchen islands that were made with less desirable materials from outside the good USA. Thank you Catskill Craftsmen for making a quality product...just need some more work done on those assembly instructions!
Great Product, But Needs Professional Assembly
We bought this for our office break room. It looks great. Everyone wants one for their own kitchens. It is a great product. However, I had to call National Assembly Services, as the manufacturer recommended, to put it together for $$. Yes, there is a video online, but the demonstrator uses power tools and obviously has off-camera help, while the directions say that you only need a few basic hand tools. The NAS representative, who was great, took about an hour and half to put it together because nothing was labeled. There was no "put tab A into slot B" here. You need to have someone with furniture-assembly experience at the helm. If you enjoy woodworking projects and have time on your hands, this is the product for you. If you want a great product and have no skill or time, buy this and call NAS.
Kitchen Cart Work of Art (almost)
The delivered item was HEAVY but the packaging made it durable enough to have withstood any Nor'easter and maybe even a disaster of Titanic proportions. All of the parts were clearly marked (labeled) and the extras that were enumerated were present. The order of assembly was clearly outlined though the drawer asseblies did not have to be held off till the end. The only issue was the assembly strategy of the center section of the island in which the back parts were not clearly labeled as to which end was up and which was the right or left. Further issues occurred as I attempted to assemble the center portion onto the base. It required four hands to hold the two back parts and the three front cross pieces in place while maneuvering the whole assembly into the waiting holes. The rest was easy. The workmanship and quality of the wood is superior, fgar more so than many of the Souter products and other office and living room furniture I have had the misfortune of having assembled. But, you get what you pay for. This was a bit pricey but well worth the expense because it is well-made and a quality addition to my randomly selected pieces of multi-room furniture expeditions.
