We needed to furnish a weekend getaway property, and a dresser in the main bedroom was a priority. I saw this item on Overstock, showed it to my wife, who said, "Let's go a little crazy and get 3--one for the bedroom, one for the guestroom, and one for the den." We did, have had them nearly 3 years now, and love them. Assembly was pretty easy, and they look just great.
After several months of comparison shopping both locally and online for free-standing kitchen carts/islands, my wife and I decided to purchase this item. It is a very nice-looking piece of furniture, and the quality is surprisingly good for the money. The only free-standing kitchen islands that we liked more than this one cost at least twice as much. Assembly does require two people, but it was a relatively easy process. A few additional notes: * It was shipped to us via UPS in three 75-80 lb. cartons, so be prepared for a very bulky delivery. * We did our very best to find something that would closely match our honey maple kitchen cabinets, and while this item still looks very nice in our kitchen, it has more of a light brown tobacco finish than a golden finish. It's not a big problem, but the color in the picture appeared slightly "warmer" to us than the product itself. On a positive note, the wood finish is not at all grainy-looking like a lot of other oak furnishings that we have observed. * We passed on ordering the island combo unit with the two matching stools since our kitchen has space limitations, but after seeing the quality of this piece, we now wish that we had ordered the 3-piece set. Overall, I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is seeking a very nice kitchen island for less than ****.
I bought this piece to use as a pantry/porch/hold-all-the-odds-and-ends storage deal, and it works beautifully. One thing I love about it is that it's light in color, and that you can look through it and see what's in there. I have it in my teeny-tiny apartment, and these qualities keep the place from looking over furnished. I'd say it's a solid piece, sturdy. And it was easy to put together, with it's own included allen wrench -- though I did need a flat head screwdriver a few times . The craftsmanship isn't exactly top-notch, however: one of the screws (or is that bolts?) wouldn't go in because the hole had been drilled a little too low. I tried to ghetto it in there: no luck. Fortunately, it was the least important place for a bolt (or is that screw?), so I just left it off and the thing is still structurally sound. Also, the condition of the box and packing materials made me think it had been sitting around a long time. I'm actually amazed that the baggie of screws was intact and didn't fall out of the rather deteriorated cardboard box. Bottom line: this piece is very nice looking, and it made my living/dining area approximately one billion times more organized and pleasant. Plus, for the money, it's a fabulous deal.
I needed this as a temporary furnishing and was able to purchase with an email coupon, so the price was right. However, it was difficult to put together even though I have assembled a lot of furniture in my day. The top is varnished, so you cannot actually use it as a butcher block or cut anything on it without destroying the finish. Also, the drawers are as deep as the unit is, but they pull out only about half way making them virtually useless when trying to quickly access utensils during cooking, etc. if you only need storage, this unit is ok. The drop leaf is sturdy when open, so it works as a small table very well. It just has a few design issues that if I had known in advance, I would have chosen a different product.
