We've had this bunk bed for awhile now. It's nice and sturdy, but if we had the chance to return it we would. 1. It was hard to assemble because not all parts were labeled clearly and we ended up with the ladder on the wrong side, so we had to drill our own hole to attach it. It was not fun. 2. There is not any room for a parent to sit when tucking your child into bed or trying to read them a bedtime story. They made the room between top and bottom bunk too small (maybe it has to be this way). 3. The ladder is hard for my kids to climb for some reason. I should have opted for stairs. All that being said, my kids still are happy with them. My main reason for not liking this item is point #2.
We purchased 2 of these beds for our 4.5 year old twins, who share a room. We chose them because we liked the play space and built-in storage and it's not as tall as regular bunk beds, which our kids are not ready for. Some thoughts: Purchase/Delivery: Purchase was easy and delivery was way faster than I thought! We got them with a few days, which was a pleasant surprise. The boxes are HEAVY!!! Be prepared to have some help lifting them. Putting it Together: It took my husband who is fairly good at this sort of stuff 1.5 days to put 2 together. He said the instructions were pretty straightforward and made sense for the most part. He only needed my help is lifting the bed on top of the shelving. As others have mentioned, we did have some damaged pieces, namey corners where clearly the box had been dropped (did I mention - they are HEAVY). Better packaging and protection of the corners might help prevent that. In our case it was more cosmetic than structural, so we were able to use it and not wait for a replacement piece. So all in all, I'd say budget 1/2 to 3/4 of a day to build one. Once assembled, my husband and I both felt that they are strong and well built. My kids weigh 40 lbs and the weight limit is 250 lbs. so I think they will age-out of these before they out-grow the weight limit. Usage: The kids use the ladder fine. The bed has great high walls. we did purchase a 6" memory foam mattress, rather than a standard twin mattress. 1) less temptation to jump, which we don't want, and 2) a standard 12" mattress is too thick for my comfort for my younger kids. If mine were older, I'd be less worried about them rolling out and would get a standard thicker mattress, but the thinner trundle/bunk bed mattress style is great for us now. The play space underneath is perfect! I bought a pressure curtain rod and made curtains from fabric. It came out super cute. The opening is 38" wide and 41" long, so 1.5 yards of fabric was perfect. Overall, I think these beds are perfect for what we need. The smaller foot print allows us to have 2 in one 12x12 room fairly comfortably. The playspace makes great use of the space and allows us to move toys out of the living room into their bedroom so yay!
Got this for my guest room to replace a convertable sofa. It works perfectly. My husband and I spent 2 hours to set it up (both the daybed and the trundle. My regular twin metress fits perfect on the sofa bed. Very happy!with the purchase
