Like many others who have reviewed, I purchased because I've wanted the West Elm Parsons desk for years but could not bring myself to spend $399 on a desk. That being said, I would have forked over the extra money for the desk knowing what I now know about this desk. I am fine with the "glossy-ness" of the desk but my problem is anything with metal (binders, computer bag) leaves silver marks on the desk. The marks become more faint over time but after using for one week, there are several marks on the desk. Thus, if you are using for school work, be prepared to have several marks on the desk. Also, I placed my computer bag on the desk and the zipper chipped the paint. Lastly, the drawers do not glide smoothly (like a higher priced desk) and can get stuck, depending on the items you place in them. (This was my first overstock purchase because I received a gift card).
More frustrated with the shipping than the desk itself; received a damaged desk that had been returned (previous RIM # was written on the damaged box); the time it took to exchange the damaged desk for a new one was a hassle. As other reviewers stated, the drawers are super shallow (the plastic clip keeps getting caught on my <1in. thick makeup brush bag), the desk isn't as glossy as you'd expect from looking at photos. For now it does the trick as a vanity and desk.
