I read the reviews before I bought this firebox, and was impressed with what I read from other buyers about this unit. The look of a real fire when lit, and the heat that it throws to warm a room on that chilly night says it all. I bought this unit to place inside of a faux antique mantle/fireplace, and with a fire screen it looks like a real fire. I also like the option of just the ambiance of fire without heat. You can do both with this firebox and it comes with a handy remote to ease your use. Just plug in and use. It's a great feature for any room.
I bought this beautiful electric fireplace more for the asthetics and its Victorian lines than the heat it produces. Delivery was on time and complete in two large boxes. One for the electric faux firebox and the other for the wood that makes up the mantle. The wood is a veneer but very attractive and natural looking, heavy and thicker than I expected which was nice. So many DIY kit furniture pieces are cheap, thin and flimsy. This isn't one of those. Assembly was fairly easy and straight forward except the parts list stated there were two (2) wooden pieces for part "J", (you only need one) which there wasn't two, and which was unnecessary for completing assembly. However, after studying the assembly plans and disregarding the typographical error, the mantle and firebox went together without a hitch. It looks fantastic in my master bedroom and goes very well with our 114 year old Victorian home. The faux fire effect is nice and the underlight pleasantly illuminates the firebox so in a dark room it doesn't look like your wall is on fire. We haven't had the opportunity to really test the heat it does put out in heating mode since it is mid July, but it does put out heat when turned on. A very beautiful fireplace and mantle. We have received several compliments about how it looks original to the room. Very happy with purchase!!!
I love this thing, so glad I bought it. One reviewer said that they liked this piece because it felt like a substantial piece of free standing furniture, and I agree. I think that the finish is a bit darker than in the picture, but it is a lovely piece that adds character to my craftsman bungalow. My house should have had a fireplace, and this arts and crafts design fits beautifully. My package arrived missing one piece (or so I thought! check all the packaging!!) and a seriously broken piece. Overstock was responsive on both and sent replacements within a few days. When yours arrives, first be sure that you got two boxes. Unpack the firebox (smaller box), plug it in, and make sure it works. Then inventory everything else before assembling. And double check inside the packaging. You can adjust temperature, flame height, and brightness of the glowing coals, independently. The flames are not super realistic, similar to others I have owned----but the ambiance is right and the frame is chunky and more substantial than other fakes. I'm thinking of adding a tile "hearth" because the wood of the mantle is dark and my floors are also dark. Tiles underneath would enhance the illusion and make it stand out more.
We love this fireplace! The original firebox made a clicking sound when the flames were on, but Overstock promptly sent a replacement that works fine. We have owned it for 3 years now. It is in our master bedroom and, since we are empty nesters, we turn the heat down in the house and set the temperature on the fireplace during the winter. It cycles on and off during the night (the fan stays on) and keeps our bedroom comfortable. The flames are fairly realistic and create a nice ambiance. The color matches the bedroom furniture we purchased on Overstock.
