I have been AMAZED at how MUCH water this 50 PINT unit is pulling out of my house!!! TRULY 50 PINTS EVERY 5 HOURS! I started running it when the temps hit the upper 80s and this week the heat index is 106. It's been running for 3 weeks. The readout that displays CO until the humidity levels out is STILL on CO and has not changed as the directions mention it will. My AC is on the fritz so I have been running this to lower the humidity while keeping the ceiling fans running in my 2 story home. (Fortunately I'm an empty nester, no one uses the upstairs now and I have lots of trees around the house.) HEAT FROM UNIT: The one thing that baffles me, and I see no one address on reviews anywhere: the blower at the top (near back) blows HOT AIR out --> warmer than my central heat in the winter! I set the unit on a 2 ft tall table in an AREA that I have not finished sheetrocking the lowered ceiling. The heat is blowing up in the "crawl space" for the most part. I'm not running a ceiling fan in that room (so I won't distribute the heat); only a short floor fan to blow across the room from the cooler side of the house. There is a foam FILTER in the front that is EASY TO REMOVE. I also kept the unit off the floor on the 2 foot table as mentioned because of animal hair and the filter. In these 3 weeks, the filter is still clean. FULL INDICATOR NOTIFICATION and REUSE OF WATER: The unit stops running and BEEPS when it is full. The water bucket is EASY TO REMOVE. When you reinsert the water bucket the unit automatically starts running again in about 2-3 seconds. It must be seated squarely in the chassis or it will beep at you again. I am SAVING ON MY WATER BILL by using the humidity pulled into the bucket. I water all the plants indoor and out and also water flowering trees that thrive with more water. SOUND LEVEL: This unit IS a bit noisy. the blower on the top puts out a heavy stream of hot air. I would not want it in a room that you are sitting in all the time - esp trying to listen to a TV. I have this in a more central room of the house that is more of a pass through type of room. RECOMMENDATION and SIZE: Yes, I would recommend this for others experiencing high humidity issues. I only give this 4 stars because of the extreme heat and noise of unit; otherwise it would be a 5. I should have went with the larger 70 pint unit. My home is approximately 1100 square on the bottom level. When I purchase the larger size, I will be able to use this in the upstairs that is approximately 700 sq ft. I will look for a smaller unit in this same brand to use exclusively in my LG bathroom and combined laundry room. (I have an extremely small unit in the bath/laundry of Another Brand and do not feel it makes much of a difference. I only empty the 1.5 cup tray every 5-6 days.)
We got because one lg room on the upper level was not cooling - This made an immediate difference. Well worth it and energy efficient as compared to an ac unit. Home in AZ.
This item arrived in just a couple of days and in excellent condition. I was replacing a similar unit from a different manfacturer with no repair facilities in the US that I could locate. Thus I chose the LG brand. It puts out a ton of cold air. It's somewhat noisy, however, and I can't tell any difference between high fan speed vs. low fan speed or noise. So far, it functions quite well.
Our department maintains its own servers in my office. The buildinds AC is turned off during off hours. It is not uncommon to find my office with the servers to be 90-95 degrees. Several years ago, we purchased a competitors unit that required to be drained and a lot less BTU for more money than this unit. Although I have not installed the duct to the ceiling yet, just my initial tests of turning it on and feeling the cold air show that the unit has 10 times the air flow and cools a lot better than the current APC unit we have. In addition, SRCool12K is not as loud. About a month ago, I purchased a LG portable unit from Home Depot, which has the same type of re-evaporation design as the SR1200. The LG unit does an awesome job of keeping things COLD and NO drain bucket has been needed. The LG unit has been running almost 24/7. I can tell from the SR1200, which is about $150 more than the LG is worth the extra money for a business. The unit was shipped and packaged great. The exhust hose is longer to allow venting through our drop celing and is of a higher grade hose than LG unit. Overall, the SR1200 is a higer quality than the LG unit and I can tell just by running the SR1200 it blows away our older APC cooling unit. For home use, it is a toss up between the LG and the SR1200 because of the initial cost savings of the LG. However, if I was going to vote on which unit would last the longest, I would say the SR1200. For Business needing cooling year round, no doubt the SR1200.
