This is not furniture that should be the centerpiece of a room nor should it be something that will be expected to last for a decade if in a high-traffic room or area of your house. It stores books but isn't as sturdy as an actual bookshelf. The books we have on it are more for ballast than for actual shelf use. The wood is light, which makes it easy to move and carry but as a piece it is not something that feels sturdy. In our apartment it's in the corner of the room tucked away as light for a desk. There are books on the second tier and third tiers, plus a plugged in iPad on a stand. The ground tier (aka the level flush with the floor) has a power strip on it to plug in the lamp as well as the desk electronics (phone charger, laptop, etc). For our purposes it's fantastic. We wanted something that wasn't showy that did the job and isn't required to do any "heavy lifting" or be ultra decorative. It's very easy to assemble with just one screwdriver. Some folks don't like that the power cord hangs down from the lamp area and only has two plastic zip ties as a solution (you are supposed to lash the cord along one of the four vertical poles so it's less noticeable. I would say those that dislike this feature probably shouldn't have gotten this lamp. This lamp sits in the corner, has a small footprint for a cozy workarea and desk in said corner, and the light and shade gives off excellent illumination. This piece I would recommend for a basement, a dorm room, a guest room, or an Air B&B space you need to decorate. And we love it just fine.
