Story Behind the Art:

Tribal bokhara rugs are made by nomads in Pakistan who spend years weaving each intricate detail into these rugs, specifically Mr. Mehta and his family. The original design of the rug originated in Turkmenistan. They are made on portable wooden looms typically with wool pulled from the tribe's sheep each year. They obtain their dyes naturally from local vegetables, flowers, tree bark, minerals, and insects. Graphs, or blueprints for the patterns, are used more often today but true masters create signature designs and color combinations showing their skill.

What is Worldstock?

The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occur between this product and your computer screen.

Tip: We recommend the use of a non-skid pad to keep the rug in place on smooth surfaces.

All rug sizes are approximate. Due to the difference of monitor colors, some rug colors may vary slightly. We try to represent all rug colors accurately. Please refer to the text above for a description of the colors shown in the photo.

Please keep in mind that new wool rugs may initially shed and have a natural capacity to shed for several months after purchase. This is normal due to the nature of construction of most wool rugs and not a defect. Click here to view our Wool Rug Care Guide.

We own a number of Bokhara's from the Middle East, picked up while on duty on Afghanistan. This rug is every bit the same quality; it is a pleasure to walk upon, has vibrant colors, and was an exceptional value. Home run!

  • Poor Quality!
    Verified Purchase

The rub was fine but the fringe was terrible and actually unraveling! It was made from very thick cotton twine and not well knotted. I was going to send it back and I turned my back and my lovable dog chewed a hole right in the middle!! I think she agreed with me.

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

"The description of this Bokhara says it is 3x12; but one of the question answers says it is 2'6" by 10'. Can anyone tell for sure the exact size? I need a 3x12, Thank you,"

    • A:

Hello Susie100, the only one available right now is the 2 ft 6 in x 10 ft. We apologize for any inconvenience we might have caused. Have a great day!

  • Q:

"what country is this rug made in? definite answer pls. thank you"

    • A:

Hello sda, the rug was made in Pakistan. Thanks for shopping with us!

  • Q:

"Is this rug a nice, bright rich red as pictured or is it more of a darker/burgundy color as some reviewers are saying?"

    • A:

Hello Lovebug, I talked to the distributor of the hand-made rug and the description is a deep red without purple tones. Differences can occur because the individual rug maker shears their own sheep and dyes the wool which would explain the customer with the burgundy runner. Thank you for shopping with us.

  • Q:

    "What size is this rug?"

    • A:

Hello Sybil, the dimensions of this rug are approximately 2 ft 6 in x 10 ft. Thanks for shopping with us!

  • Q:

"Why did you choose this product?"

    • A:

like the design, the material it's made with and the size.
