I completely agree with those who say this isn't gold. It's a distressed, patinaed silver/pewter/goldish mixture and, to my mind, is much lovelier than gold. It works perfectly with the reclaimed wood in our guest bedroom. And as usual with Overstock, can't beat the price or the service.
I read the reviews so I knew this headboard was made to attach to a platform bed, and not a standard bed frame. So, fortunately, no surprises there. If you have a regular frame, which we do, you could get creative in attaching it to the bed, install it directly on the wall (as some reviewers have), or even attach it to nightstands on either side for a one-piece, "built-in" look (which I did, but my stands are old, reclaimed pieces, so I didn't mind risking putting screws into them!) It was a bit of work, but I can't fault the product when it wasn't designed to work with my bed in the first place. I knew that going in, and wanted to make it work anyway, because the price and the apparent quality were so appealing. And I'm not disappointed. I love the way the piece looks and it feels nice as well. However, I gave it four stars for two reasons. First, the pre-drilled holes for the nuts and bolts should be recessed so that the hardware doesn't protrude in the back. However, they are not, and that puts the wall at risk for scratches and gouges. With a little imagination, the problem can be solved, but it shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Second, I would not call the color "Chocolate." To be honest, I wanted a black headboard, but couldn't find what I wanted for the price I was willing to pay, so I settled for chocolate. So, I'm glad it turned out to be nearly black. But if you're looking for brown, beware that this company's "chocolate" is a dark, dark chocolate. My husband, who was not aware of the "chocolate" moniker, praised me for finding a piece that exactly matches the black leather, upholstered bench at the foot of our bed!
