Story Behind the Art:

• Master craftsmen in the Bhadohi province of India create a traditional graph for each rug, which is a large blueprint of what will be woven and often quite intricate. The design is then physically erased by the master weaver, who deliberately destroys parts of the pattern to create random holes and gaps before handing the pattern to the workshop to begin the weaving process. This results in a beautiful rug with a vintage feel that is not damaged by harsh washes that fade dyes. Due to the handmade nature of these rugs, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches.
• The majority of the weavers are women who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. By creating more jobs for female weavers, the community thrives as local farmers benefit from wool sales, while local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
