Handmade Sese Wood 'Desire for Peace' African Mask (Ghana) - Multi-color
Carved by hand, this colorful mask by Anna Yawson depicts a bearded personage with narrow eyes and a serene gaze. The unique and beautiful design is the artisan's own. She names it Fafali, a Ewe word meaning "peace." "I want peace to prevail in each home where this mask is displayed," she confides.

Story Behind the Art:
Ghana's Anna Yawson says, 'I got the opportunity to work as an art vendor and developed an interest in arts and crafts. I sketch the designs on paper, then work closely with skilled artisans as they do the carving. I love that there is no waste of wood. Every small piece of wood can be used to create small creatures. I have trained two people and provide jobs for ten artisans. My design work helps me pay for my children's education.I have trained two people and I also work with three experienced designers. At the moment, I provide jobs for ten artisans. It is my dream to increase in sales and be able to expand my workshop.
