Hi, I am Kamal Madan from Moradabad, UP, India. Moradabad is also known as the 'Brass City' or Peetal Nagri, owing to the huge market of brass and other metal handicrafts. Since my childhood days, I have been an art lover. I have always admired the way a handcrafted product goes through so many hands before taking its final splendid form. I belong to a business family and was expected to join the family business. My passion for handicrafts was so strong that I decided to venture on my own in handicrafts business. Initially, I went through a bad phase owing to lack of money. I had to put a lot of hard work to reach a stable position. Today, I am content with what I have been able to achieve and practice simple living. When I started out, I hardly knew any technicalities of this field. I had to spend a lot of time with the craftsmen to understand the various processes involved. Learning from the grass roots level has taught me the nuances of the trade. Now I can proudly claim that I know every smallest detail of the process. The materials used in my products include a range of metals mainly Iron, Brass and Aluminum which are available in abundance in my native place. Also wood, horn, bone and glass are used in combination with these metals to create beautiful votives, mirrors and photo frames. The metals used in the products are all recyclable. The main process includes die casting the metal and glass in desired shapes. The best feature of my work is the ongoing innovation. I love generating new ideas. It is inspiring to see a person who is not very well educated in standard terms but is a master of his/her own craft. I work with a number of such craftsmen who convert my ideas into actual products through their wonderful skills. Though, sometimes it is challenging to communicate my ideas to them properly. I make them understand the quality requirements to meet the international standards. The end product is so beautiful that it makes you forget the hardships you have suffered in the process.
