Story Behind the Art:
This ottoman was handmade by local villagers in the Judhpur area, located in the Rajasthan province of India. First, they weave the kilim, making it to the exact dimensions and then upholster onto the handmade sheesham wood frame. The ottoman comes with twist-in legs. Herat Oriental has been providing beautiful, authentic, handmade rugs and furniture to Worldstock for over 10 years. Worldstock has given us the opportunity to create jobs for over 2,000 local village weavers and artisans, which helps them to greatly support their families. The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. As we grow with Worldstock, we are able to create more jobs for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. The community also thrives from rug weaving and furniture production as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the artisans to use in their designs.
