Story Behind the Art:

• This rug is a reproduction of Kazak rugs that were woven in the south of the Caucasus region. The production of these rugs is now limited to a few villages in the region, so this beautiful design was recreated by weavers in the Bhadohi village of the Varanasi province in India. The handmade nature of the rug means that sizes may vary up to 3-4 inches. Herat Oriental has been providing authentic, handmade rugs for over 10 years and has created over 2,000 jobs for local village weavers in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, many of whom are women. The community benefits from rug weaving as local farmers benefit from wool sales and local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
