Story Behind the Art:
The contemporary design of this particular rugoriginated in the mountaneous areas of Tibet but is made in theVaranasi region of India, by the Bhadohi village weavers. The woolof these rugs is provided by the local villagers. Tibetan rugs aremostly geometric and modern patterns with bold colors.The knotcount per square inch for this rug is 200. This rug is made of100-percent wool. The pile height is 0.5 inches. The weavingtechnique is hand-tufted, which is a rug making process whereweavers insert yarn into the rug backing with a hand held tuftinggun to push and pull the threads through a pre-woven gridfoundation. In a tufted rug, the tops of the loops are sheared toexpose the ends of the threads for a softer, plusher pile. Thehandcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color,size and design.
